    MacUpdate

With their "new" format, you cannot go back in time longer that about half a day. Used to be able to go back as far as you cared to.

    Aquamacs GUI stopped working

Not true! Not that I had ever heard of it, or used it, but it was just updated a few months ago: http://aquamacs.org/downloads/

    Apple music app filtering display

FWIW, I hate the new Music too. They dumped the 'mini player' too.

    Emailing files to a friend

Apple, in the last few years, has had a penchant to create pictures in HEIC format instead of JPG/JPEG format. That could be your problem, There are several programs that convert HEIC to .jpg or other formats. Suggest you check format before forwarding your pics.

    MacUpdate

As I said above, they have an app, but my rant is for the website, not the app. I have never even tried their app. I agree with you...why pay for an app when the alternative(s) are free.

Further: "08 October 2021 MacUpdate joins forces with Clario MacUpdate has announced its new ownership as part of Clario. There will be no change to MacUpdate as a platform and no change to MacUpdate community teams and management...." “...MacUpdate has always been known as an independent...

    MacUpdate

Another problem with their "new" format is you cannot go further back than today. Any checking for updates has to be daily or nothing. By the way, they do have an updater app, but no way will I install that!

    MacUpdate

Most, if not all, will run on M1 Macs thru Rosetta.

    MacUpdate

I am totally disgusted with MacUpdate. I am a regular user, but it is getting so hard to use them, I just may have to change all I possibly can to Apple's App Store. This is an email I sent to them today. I urge anyone that is at all interested in what they (used to) provide to also write and...

    Cord cleaning

I held both ends in one hand & ran hot water over the remaining 5ish feet while rubbing as best as I could. Dried with clean dish cloth. Not a great result, but acceptable. Dear Apple, Please make the fabric covered MagSafe 3 cord black or dark grey instead of pure white! It won't show dirt...

    Cord cleaning

New 16" MBP. The MagSafe 3 charger cord is now fabric covered. My cord is quite dirty, and was wondering if anyone has tried to clean theirs yet. And with what? A few years ago, i wiped down the cord from my old MBP, and the covering started to deteriorate. I do not want to go that route again...

Mount or link external drive folder?

IMHO, you are making much ado about nothing! Use your external 2TB external SSD as a Time Machine backup and don't attempt to muck up your system. I cannot remember any data loss during a system upgrade in the many years I have been doing them since my Apple IIc days.

For that matter, Alsoft's DiskWarrior would be my 1st go-to for disk repair. Alas, though, I believe it is dead forever for current Macs.

Perhaps a User Group would be of assistance if one is fairly near you. https://www.apple.com/usergroups/

Yes, they are actual people. ANS...they speak English! Yes, you can book a time of your convenience. I don't work for Apple, so I do not know the prices, or the particular expertise of what you are looking foe, but Apple can assist you on the phone. AFTER you purchase a Mac, you are entitled to...

FWIW, the Geniuses at the Apple store MAY be a help here. Visit and see if they have a genius familiar with what you want. Make an appointment for when you want (and also, they would be prepared. Pay for an hour or so. MIGHT be well worth the $. Welcome back to the fold---hopefully!
