    Provider-free iPhone now available...

no, it's cheaper than entering into a contract. over here, the cheapest you can legitimately buy an iPhone for is about £899 (£269+£35/month for 18 months). €999 is £770.

    3 Ghz MacBook Pro

intel is currently supplying many 3ghz processors for the Mac Pro's, the Quad 3.0ghz being bespoke just for apple. but not for portables. as far as i know, you can't get a fast (you can possibly find a dogged old P4 3.2ghz knocking around) 3ghz cpu for a portable, the fastest is the 2.6ghz...

    iPhone unlock :: Europe

one of our more fundamental board rules is no discussion of any kind about anything illegal. i'm not sure exactly where this stands, but i'm pretty sure it beaches EULA, and so is illegal. sorry....

iPod Touch: An iPod & Computer In Your Pocket?

chemistry geek, if you think the 4th gen earbuds are good, you really want to invest in some in-ear canal phones (Shure etc), or at least mid-ear canal phones if they seem a bit pricey (Sony MDR-EX71, i got mine for £20). the difference, even with the mid-ear canal phones, is astounding.

I want to play Monkey Island

the Mac OS, from version 10.0 onwards is a completely different beast to all previous versions. 9.2 was the last version of what is now referred to as the classic os. while most software was ported over to work with the new Mac OS X, a lot of games never were, old DOS-era games like Monkey...

My experience with Leopard on my new MacBook

i have an iBook G3 700mhz, and a dual 1.8ghz G5. considering one is about 4-6x as fast as the other, the OS is virtually indistinguishable. this isn't to say that the G5 is slow, but that the OS is so well optimised that it runs *amazingly* on my old G3 (Tiger). that's the impressive part...

    10.5.1 Available

my flakey airport problems have toally stopped. about a week ago. no idea. 10.5.1, just upgraded about an hour ago. not notcied anything... although it fixes something i had notcied, so should be alright.
  14. Lt Major Burns

Is Leopard worth the upgrade right now?

yes. i'd wait for 10.5.3, or actually, not bother. the way i see it, it's keeping a new mac ahead of the curve, it's keeping itself ahead of windows etc, but if the way you work is not hindered by tiger, i probably wouldn't bother.

What Are Some Differences Between RAM and HD Space?

think of ram like the top of your desk, and your HD like a cupboard/storeroom/drawers/attic. when your desk fills up, it's temporary, but when it gets really full of stuff, it's harder to work, so you clear it (OS X clears it dynamically for you, so you do;nt have to worry). you've just gone...

MAC OSX Applications with same functionality as Windows ones

SuperDuper! is like a much more polished version of CCC, but comes as shareware as a result. it is better though, and is updated often.

How do you change your cursor?

with dodgy bloody programs from unsanity.org, mighty mouse i think it was called for cursors. although these seem like happy happy programs, and the creators maintain that they're safe, it is their installer environment that caused all the BSOD problems with leopard. use at your own risk.

    Full Screen CoverFlow in Finder?

you can quicklook a bunch of images in full screen, but this doesn't do the coverflow thing... still presents images quite nicely though
