    Speakers on my iBook suck

I have to say, the iBook's speakers are exceptionally average for a laptop. The PowerBook's speakers and pretty good. And I once heard a ThinkPad that was absolutely AMAZING for a laptop... which, basically means, they're all crap. Just varying shades of crap. Boosting your 'Books speakers in...

    What system software is this?

Wha...? Maybe this is a version of Rhapsody? (Which would eventually become Mac OS X... The product of Apple buying NeXt)?

    MacBook

At this point in time, I would have very different buying advice for certain people, depending on who they are and what their current situation is. If you're a creative pro who can't live without Final Cut and After Effects... don't get a MacBook Pro, buy a PowerBook and wait a couple years for...

    ipod firmware

lol. Excuse me. I am completely on drugs. I though ElDiabloConCaca's first post was an admission that the new iPods do not play AIFFs, and I remembered that when I upgraded my first generation iPod to play AAC files, they took away AIFF support. Nevermind the guy with the old iPod. I'm just...

    ipod firmware

Huh.... if playing AIFF files is important to you, you may want to look into buying a generation 1 or two iPod with old firmware.... back when AIFF files were supported. But then the firmware was updated, and they got rid of AIFF but added AAC (MP4) support. *shrugs* a suggestion.

    speeding up virtual pc

Hmmm... rather than trying to get Virtual PC up to a speed where you can use it with an audio app (darn near impossible), why don't you just try another audio app? What, specifically is your audio project? What kind of editor are you looking for? There's LOTS of Mac OS X audio apps, and one of...

    Virtual PC

I believe you can simply drag the files from a window within Windows to a folder on your Mac side... if that doesn't work, you could always use Virtual PC's "Shared Folder" feature to share the files between the Windows and Mac sides.

    Supporting Macs

Ergh.... can't say that I've read any Mac books lately, but I hear the Mac OS X "missing Manual" by David Pogue is good. (i've read other stuff by David Pogue years ago in the past. He is a funny and good technical writer) That should get you started on at least all of the basics, and even...

    Disastrous side effects

This particular problem has nothing to do with "damage" of any kind. You're using an audio file such as an MP3 that needs to be rendered. Choose "Render All" from the "Sequence" menu in Final Cut. The beeping is an indication that the audio needs rendering. Sounds like you need to do some disk...

    iweb.. the mystery Â

Oh. Sorry. Der. Well, we're all agreed then... There's a funky "A" visible. Anyway... I guess this is just a bug in iWeb's coding, eh? Going to have to wait for a fix from Apple. Poo. P.S. Yeah, I too, am disappointed by the slow image loading time. iWeb doesn't seem to optimize much, if at...

    iweb.. the mystery Â

Yup. Made that in iWeb and used FTP to upload... That's all iWeb right there. Weird that some see a mystery character and others don't. For me, it shows up in both FireFox and Safari. P.S. Sorry, the front page doesn't contain any returns... go to the quotations page to see them.

    DVD Studio Pro 3

I can't say I've had this specific problem. All I can do is recommend the usual troubleshooting ( trashing the .plist file, using Disk Utility to repair permissions ).... Sorry.

    "Announce" - for OS X

Apple Remote Desktop, which lets you do all sorts of things, to computers in your network, including control them, install software on them, and lock them, has a feature that lets you send a message to selected Macs on your network. Granted, ARD is probably overkill for just this purpose, but...

    Blasphemous cartoons

Ooh. That's bad. If you're going to offend, you have to be an equal-opportunity offender. If they don't have the balls to criticize Christianity, they shouldn't be doing it with Muslims. It's all or nothing.

can i go "wireless" with dial-up?

Before we had broadband, we used an original Apple Airport and share our dial-up amongst our 'Books. An Apple Airport Extreme WITH a modem (they sell them both with and without modems) would be an ideal, but slightly pricey solution for you, and fairly easy to use.

    Really Reliable Powerbook

I'd love to know how the people at an Apple store react when he asks, "How can we put my old Mac data in a new MacBook Pro?" and then plops THIS thing on the Genius bar.

    LaCie External HDs, Reliable?

I, personally, have had bad experiences with LaCie. We had a LaCie pocket drive that, one day, just failed. i had used it via both FireWire and USB, and one day, it just wouldn't show up. Via FireWire or USB. Years later, i ripped it apart, and put a known-working hard disk on the drive circuit...

    itune help or itune alternative?

There is a work-around. Create a playlist. Add your first song to it. Then, double click it in your new playlist. Now, go back to your library and add things to the new playlist as you like. Sorry. It's not exactly the same, but it's a workaround that will get the improvised-playlist kind of...
