Blog post synopsis (click the link for images): Managing your Fonts on a Mac: Linotype FontExplorer (Free) Managing fonts on your mac is relatively easy, but there are some things to keep in mind. I've given this advice 1000 times and only just now realised I could just post this advice to my...

File Sharing: Can't see one folder

Hey, thanks for responding! I meant folders within my computer. Of course I've just now figured out what's happening: The "Documents" folder, where my folders are placed that I'm sharing, has its own permissions (one was a com.apple...permission, strange!) and I didn't know it applies those to...

File Sharing: Can't see one folder

Hi! I'll get right to it: My mac is File Sharing on a Windows network. All users can see two out of three folders. This issue is seen from both mac and pc machines within the network. How can I get the third folder to show up? 1. All folders have the same permissions: R/W - RO - RO 2...

    Adjust Contrast/Brightness in Multi-Page PDFs?

Yes! You can perform "Batch" functions by selecting all pages in a doc opened in preview and any action you choose gets applied to all pages. More here (scroll down to #5): http://www.usingmac.com/2008/8/5/10-handy-mac-preview-application-tricks

Can Ping Some Addresses, Internet Connection is Very Slow

Set up a password on that router in addition to the MAC addresses. I'd imagine you're supplying your neighborhood with internet for free.

    Best RSS reader for MAC?

MacMail is pretty great at adding RSS feeds - just click "+" and enter the rss url. Pretty sweet! And you can track them all along with your email, and mix them all together if you prefer. I keep them as separate folders under my Mail folders.

    Garage Band Tempo

Did you try my suggestion on the tech forum here? That should work a treat as long as your drum track is in a format Garageband can recognize.

Passing information back to ASP page from another page

Can you populate the drop downs using an xml file instead? That can be cached by the browser, I think.

Internal HD won't load Mac OS X Leopard

Try booting in Single User Mode and running a repair on your internal hard drive: http://thesalon.blogspot.com/2009/05/mac-os-x-single-user-mode.html You can also boot to the install cd and run a disk repair from there. Might need to reinstall OS X on the machine. Was it interrupted during...

    Pink flashing columns on Screen

I think your video card is bad and no amount of software is going to fix it. You need to get it seen by a licensed Apple tech. You can try things like repairing permissions first (go to my blog here: http://thesalon.blogspot.com/search?q=repair+permissions) but I imagine you'll end up where...

Permanently changing hostname on a MacBook Pro

I promise, no terminal stuff here. :) If you are trying to change what your computer is seen as on a network, just go to System Preferences/Sharing and change the name in the top entry field (should be something generic like "MacBook Pro" or "My Computer" or similar).

    Adobe Reader problem

There's also this article on Apple's website: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1715761 Mentions "hosed preferences in the main user account". Try to open pdfs in a different user account (usually helps to have more than one on a mac in case one gets corrupted, as yours seems...
