    I've had it with Microsoft...

And the Mac Mini, don't forget: it's BYO mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc. Of course, it does have the Apple Remote, but that won't be much help without a mouse or keyboard.

    MacBook Power Supply Problem

Then it could still be heat, just internal. Probably the "safety" mechanism you mentioned earlier, which I think is what the Cube's power brick issue is. A way to prevent burning anything nearby.

And maybe make do with GIMP in the meantime?

    MacOSX.com word association!

pain (ever tried to use Outlook?;)) Oh, and if you want to know why I associate University with waste, know that I am a former Penn State University student. I can't begin to go into how wasteful they are, especially not here, where it takes things off such a fun topic. PM me if you're curious.

    VLC Media Player on OSX

I would say that I find a similar thing happens with any videos I download: I try in Quicktime, and if that doesn't work I go to VLC. If I've been annoyed by Quicktime lately, I might go straight to VLC until something doesn't work, then QuickTime saves the day. Strange thing is, the format...

    I've had it with Microsoft...

It's actually "mac-win." Ok, sorry, bad joke. On a slightly more serious note, I would recommend visiting the MacOS X page at VersionTracker. Any Windows programs you use that don't have Mac versions? There are usually better, and often cheaper or even free, alternatives available. Apple has a...

    MacOSX.com word association!

Waste As to an earlier post: Try reading "Fast Food Nation" for a well researched history of several fast food chains, at least in the earlier chapters. I don't know how detailed the coverage will be specifically for McD's in the supposedly upcoming movie, but seeing as how the book used the...

    MacBook Power Supply Problem

If it's the same problem my cube had, check the power supply. The cube, for those of you who might not recall, had an external power brick, covered on top and bottom with vent holes. Except the little rubber feet only allowed about 1 or 2 mm space under it, as long as they stayed attached...

Can someone send me the Safari application in Tiger?

Have you tried a different (newer) system account? This solved a similar problem I had some time ago.

Apple should NOT do business with BEST BUY

I have no qualms about letting Best Buy try again; the people who bother to walk into a best buy I would imagine are not the same people who enter an Apple Store, even on curiosity alone. Therefore, the worst case scenario is that they may actually sell a few machines. Oh darn. On the other...

    What's left for WWDC?

ok, so as much as I hate to aid in the off-topic ramblings, I just had a thought about the whole OSX-on-Athlon64 issue: The OS's name is MacOS X. They will never release that OS for anything other than Macs, and as far as using non-PPC processors in Macs, someone got it right earlier saying...

Enough G5, how about some G3 news

hehehe those 2 kinda contradict each other. Anyway, it makes more sense to majorly upgrade the laptop versions of the G3's and G4's, since much of the work has already been done and these processors still have life in them. Leave the hot G5's in the towers for a while.

And yall thought the G4 was dead ...

"Motorola is huge for us," said Joswiak. "Our partnership with Motorola is not going away, G4s are in every other part of our product line. As you can see, [the G5] is not going in a PowerBook anytime soon. Motorola remains very important to us, but IBM is the one that can take us to the next...

    Ideas for Mac Ads?

Except that is how capitalism is supposed to work: consumers making informed decisions and buying the best products, ensuring the success of the best product.

    Ideas for Mac Ads?

This would be perfect with one modification:forget the intermediate fade-to-whites. Show MacOS X doing all this stuff, seamlessly, maybe with a genie effect thrown in, no freezes, no problems, no failed burning of the cd the person makes of the music they just bought from the iTMS. Minimize a...

Ding-Dong the Witch is dead!! IE no more!

M$ is no longer developing standalone IE for Windows or Mac, so losing it on the Mac is not truly a loss. It simply is incorrectly named now, and is only the integrated file browser for Windows (like Finder in MacOS X) AFAIK. Since M$ brought MSN to the Mac, they will now only have MSN explorer...

    New eMac <-- I'm Fast :)

Of course, it could increase the cost of the package. Also, isn't it better to buy a mouse you really want, rather than put up with what you've been given simply because it has the basic features you want? I.E. like people who buy PCs often do?

    Remember that botched Microsoft ad...

As I sit here on a Penn State Abington lab machine running Windows 2000, I yet again experience why maximizing on the Mac is so different (and in my opinion, better) than maximising in Windows. Having the maximize function cause the window to take over the screen serve one important purpose for...
