A 10-sided (decahedron) G4 enclosure would be a bit extreme, wouldn't it? :D The only shape with 10 sides I can think of that would work, would be an extruded hexagon (ie, it looks like a hexagon either side-on, of from the front/rear). Wasn't there a rumour a while back about a 12-sided...

It was discontinued because they weren't selling and/or they weren't making enough profit on them, I would presume. The "cracks" in the case were explained away as mold lines. I have on in mine. It's not a problem for me. Jim

Answering my own question again - I downloaded the DVD s/w updater, and now it just quits because I haven't got the speakers plugged in :*) Presumably that's what it was throwing a wobbly at before, only now I get a proper error message... Jim

In case anyone's interested, here's what I found out: The HD can be changed. There's a quicktime video and instructions on the apple website detailing how the existing one can be removed, and the new one installed. I probably put an IBM Deskstar 60GXP 60Gb unit in to replace the 20Gb one...

Erm, surely you need a 6pin-6pin cable because that's what both machines' firewire sockets are? What am I missing here? Jim

Yikes. £380? Hmm, I'd still have to buy one :-) When I spoke to smartdisc about their firefly portable firewire HD (same drive mechanism as the iPod), they said 10 and 20Gb versions (of the Drive mechanism) would be out early next year. Maybe if/when Apple use them in the iPod you...

You could use the Applescript menu bar thingy... Um, someone know what I mean who knows its proper name? :-) I expect you could write an applescript that wrote some applescript to launch an app... Jim

The microdrive is much smaller though (and thus more expensive). Incidentally, I spoke to the people on the smartdisc (? the people who make the firefly, based on the same toshiba 1.8" HD) stand at the London MacExpo - they said 10 and 20Gb versions of the HD were due early next year...
