Scanners - are the more expensive ones worth it?

The more expensive models will usually provide better quality and higher resolution. However, an £800 scanner is probably overkill unless you are working in photography all the time. Be aware that not all scanners can do transparencies or slides, and some can do them but need a separate...

    Boycott MacMall??

I'm not sure which category to post this to,but I wanted to get some opinions on it.It seems that MacMall is offering free shipping(Up to $40) for items purchased between Feb13th,2003 to Feb16th,2003 which is a pretty good deal and would not normally make me mad. Then I decided to visit...

    Intego Net/Virus Barrier problem(Serious)

I fail to see how this is a "nothing but net" issue, since the failure of these apps to do what they are supposed to can be harmful whether or not you EVER go surfing on the net. JMO

    Intego Net/Virus Barrier problem(Serious)

I have been using NetBarrier on OS9 for a long time and have always been happy with it. BUT...In OSX I have found that about a third of the time I start my computer there is some sort of problem that will not allow either Net Barrier or Virus Barrier to load, that in itself wouldn't be so...

    OSX starts with no chime.

Thanks for the replies,to be honest I can live with no chime, but I was concerned that it was a sign of impending doom. Since I already lost the usb (intermittent)I have been waiting for the other shoe to drop so to speak. If I can get this box to last a few more months so I can scrape together...

    OSX starts with no chime.

g3joel: I do have it plugged into a BelkinUPS,and I don't feel comfortable plugging straight into the wall...I guess losing the chime is a small price to pay for power security. The power is real dirty here(spikes & brownouts).I wondered about that when I read at Apples tech info list that the...

    OSX starts with no chime.

After being off all night there is again no start-up chime.I don't mind replacing the battery again, but can anyone think of anything else that might cause this or cause a battery to last less than a year? I replaced the original battery with one from Radio shack about 7 months ago. It is a...

    OSX starts with no chime.

g3joel: Good call, the chime is back. Now to see how long it keeps working...I havent been having any of the most noticeable battery related symptoms like time changes but it is possible that I got a bad battery when I replaced the original. If the sound goes out again that will be my first...

    OSX starts with no chime.

Thanks for the response, its worth a try.I kind of doubt I could get off that easy though...the battery is less than a year old so I don't think it needs replacing but I have seen some pretty strange stuff cleared up by a good old fashioned zapping.

    OSX starts with no chime.

I've been having some problems with my Rev1(or A)B&W,after erasing and re-installing/updating to 10.2.3 I now have no start-up chime...but after a short while the computer will start up ok.I believe I am having some corruption problems that may be related to the IDE controller in this box but...

Am I losing my mind?(Quite likely!)

slur: I thought that might be the case(that I was losing my mind:)thanks for confirming my suspicions. TommyWillB: As far as I can remember,(see earlier memory loss post:),the click and hold worked even in OS9 but,as slur states, only in web browsers not in the finder. xaqintosh...

Am I losing my mind?(Quite likely!)

Ok,thx for the replies...I use a multi button mouse also so the right click works and is not a big deal, but I could swear I could just do a regular click and hold to get the menu before I installed FruitMenu. Oh well,I guess its a good thing I didn't go screaming to Unsanity that they "Broke my...

Am I losing my mind?(Quite likely!)

OK,this is so stupid I hesitate to dignify it with a post,but... I think I used to be able to click on an icon(drive, document, etc)and if I held it for a second the contextual menu would pop-up with open, open with, move to trash, etc.depending on what the icon was. Now the only place I get a...
