I have been using NetBarrier on OS9 for a long time and have always been happy with it.
BUT...In OSX I have found that about a third of the time I start my computer there is some sort of problem that will not allow either Net Barrier or Virus Barrier to load, that in itself wouldn't be so bad,but there is NO WARNING that you are unprotected until you try to open the app(s) to change or check something.
Since both Net and Virus Barrier are supposed to run in the background and do their job without you having to do anything I was quite surprised to find out one day by accident that they weren't doing what I bought them for. When I tried to open the apps I get a "Fatal Erroraemon not running"...since there was no warning I have no idea how long I have been without protection.A restart usually fixes it and allows the daemon to load.
I would be the first to admit that the problem may well be one that they have no control over, such as permissions or a problem with my system, but I think there should be some warning when the Daemon fails to start so that you will know you are not protected. Especially because it is supposed to be a background app that under normal use wouldn't be opened by the user.
I suggest anyone who uses these programs get in the habit of starting them up to check if they are running. If you leave your computer on all the time I assume you would only need to check once.
BTW:After I first became aware of this problem I did a clean install of OS10.2-updated to 10.2.3,then installed the Intego apps again,I had the same problem.
Please forgive the lengthy post, but I am a little disappointed with the response I've had from Intego which was basically:This shouldn't be happening,(No kidding!),and if it really is you should be able to send us the crash log!
It's been a week since the first crash log was sent with no response.
I would be interested in hearing if anyone else runs into the same problem.
Thanks for letting me vent,
