I'm really sad! - the apple store has been taken down

The 12" ibook is a great deal. Very little in the 12" powerbook to tempt me.

    Talk to important people?

We don't tip in Ireland we pay a service charge, so an apology is just that, an apology. Bad service is bad service, simple as that. You pay for goods/service and you don't get what you were promised. In my opinion thats grounds for a quick apology and action to rectify the situation. No fuss no...

    OS X installation woes :(

You can't install a os x onto a desktop system using the discs that came with your laptop. You'll have to stump up the cash. What's the problem with that? I had a friend bending my ear last night in the pub asking me to get him Microsoft Office (about €400 in Ireland) and Autocad (worth about...

    Talk to important people?

I don't think there's anything wrong with expecting some sort of apology if someone sells you a dodgy item. Cfleck why is it so ridiculous to expect someone to say or write the equivalent of sorry we sent you a dud, it shouldn't have happened. That doesn't mean that the customer wants to be...

    ImageMagick-nox won't run

Probably a little late but I noticed that Marc Liyanage has this software packaged for os x on his site

    Good content managing software?

Thanks for your reply, I'll look into those. Funnily enough I was reading about blog software in Macworld the other day. I realise that the site will only be as good as the content that is posted on it, thats why the solution has to be user friendly. I'll be responsible for getting it off the...

Panther install problems on dual G5

You could try selecting disc utility from title bar before you select your default language. You might have to reformat the hard drive. I have a feeling it won't work though, I think laptop os restore discs won't work on a powermac.

    Good content managing software?

Hi everyone, hope this is in the right forum... I'd like to set up a website for the school where I work, I thought about putting up a static site telling the public about the school but I feel that it could serve a more active role in school life. Several other teachers have...

    buying an old sgi machine!

Thanks for your replies, are the Octanes any good? I've read that there is little or no difference between the Octane and the Octane2. There seems to be plenty of deals available on ebay for Octanes including monitors/keyboards/mouse.

    buying an old sgi machine!

I'd love to buy an old silicon graphics machine, does anyone have any experience with these? Are they usable for everyday stuff and a little tinkering. It would be purely a hobby machine and not much else. Ebay.co.uk have lots available and I'd appreciate some advice! Thanks

    Which Backup Software

230 GB of data to DVDs? Even with incremental backups that would be impractical. I used to use Dantz Retrospect but now use Chronosync. I back up to an external hd and burn a dvd containing important documents once a week. Not foolproof but the best I can do.

is it wise to buy a Mac now?

Might spring for a new 12" powerbook later in the Summer, I'm not too bothered about intel/ppc as it's just a laptop. The battery life is good, I love os x and the powerbook will fit nicely into my bag. Bought a new dp powermac last September, probably won't spring for a new one until the early...

    "It Never Crashes" it does...

Yea I've heard much the same from anybody who is careful with their XP system, ie not downloading stuff from p2p networks and steering clear of spyware/adware. The school where I work uses XP on the newer systems. The biggest problems are virus related.

    "It Never Crashes" it does...

If i'm uninstalling I check for an uninstaller program, if there isn't one I just drag the app to the trash and then check /Library/Application support for any extra stuff belonging to the program. If it's a pref pane, you can find all of these in /Library/Preferencepane.

    "It Never Crashes" it does...

Quick question, how does os x behave on large networks? My brother is a software engineer in Intel. He loves os x but works in a solaris/windows environment all day. The systems are well maintained, no unneccessary software etc. and he reckons that windows behaves well for them and gets the job...

    "It Never Crashes" it does...

My powermac G5 started to crash fairly often a while back, it was around the time that I decided to put a proper backup system in place so I saved the important stuff and reinstalled panther and subsequent updates. I agree with nixgeek, if you install everything you come across and don't...
