    I thought this problem might be related to my FriendlyNet PCI 696 card from Asante, so I found a driver for Jaguar, hoping it might work on Tiger, and still no go. I still got the green network status ball though.

    Problem w/PCI ethernet card configuration

    Sounds like the same problem I'm having. Lightning took care of the onboard ethernet, so I bought a PCI ethernet card which works great in OS 9, but I cannot get it working in Tiger. (Yes, I'm late into the OS X world due to $$).
