Panther Bugs and Incompatibilities (Post here)

I already posted this in another thread before I saw this one. I have a strange internet connect bug in Panther. Many times when I go to connect, I can't get it to dial unless I pick up my nearby phone after I hit connect. Once it starts to dial; I can hang up my phone. Many times if...

    Best backup options; RAID?

I have a 60GB main drive. I really haven't made any backups for it. I wanted to know what will be the best way to backup the drive. If the main drive fails, I want it to be as painless as possible to get back up and running again. Is there backup software that will periodically (weekly, monthly...

GIMP - Best way to install?

OK, I think I've done everything right so far... Another newbie question: Currently in Fink Commander the output is "Setting Up gimp(1.2.4-1)..." Is it normal for it to sit there for a while with that message? How long should I have to wait for it to finish setting up? I'm on a Dual 867 MDD.

GIMP - Best way to install?

OK, I've done all of this. Now you say that all I need to do is go to the xterm in X11 and type gimp. When I do this all I get in return is "tcsh: gimp: Command not found". Don't I need to first install GIMP from FinkCommander?

GIMP - Best way to install?

I know there are a lot of threads concerning the installation of GIMP but I couldn't find the answers I need. Anyway, UNIX stuff is pretty foreign to me so I'm in need of some help. I just installed OS 10.3 along with X11. I want to install GIMP and would like to know what is the best way...

    Best PDA for OS X?

The Tungsten E just came out and I have one on the way. I haven't had a Palm for over a year because I broke the screen on my m505. Anyway, the Tungsten E seemed to offer the most bang for the buck. I really like that I can use it as a portable MP3 player as well. If you're looking for...

    Which Mac Mag?

MacAddict is def the best mag IMO. I used to read Mac Home Journal back in the day and it was good as well. MacWorld doesn't seem to have any character and is littered with ads.

    iMovie3 or IDvd Sync Problem

Is your captured audio in iMovie 12bit? You should use 16bit audio to avoid sync issues in movies over 30 minutes. This is a noted problem in the Apple KBase.

    Problem creating SVCD!

In ffmpegX, just lower the bit rate. It does have a bit rate calculator.... If you're bitrate is going to be something other than the standard SVCD bitrate (which is 2500), make sure you have the XSVCD profile chosen under the Options tab. You can use MissingMediaBurner to overburn it if...

    VCD on Toast Problem!

You probably have the "QT Decode" option checked. When you have this checked, the terminal doesn't seem to be doing anything but it is. You can check the status of your file by previewing in VLC or QT. BTW, the "QT Decode" option is there so that QuickTime can be used to decode the file -...

    VCD on Toast Problem!

Are you using ffmpeg only (command line) or are you using fmpegX (GUI)? In order to burn the (s)vcd in toast, you'll need to author the file for burning in ffmpegX - look in the tools tab. RPS - That "warning" is normal.

Can the DVDs be accessed via the Finder? If so, you could try VLC as an alternative DVD player.

Remote MP3 Hardware Controller for HiFi?

You can do this with slimp3 - http://www.slimp3.com/ You could also do this with an XBOX w/mediaplayer, PS2 w/QCast, and there is a future revision of TiVO that will stream your MP3s.
