    NeoOffice build

Java has a reputation of being slow - and it is. Everything has pros and cons. The same program can run on all platforms. So you don't have to worry about OSes

    NetInfo / Jaguar

I thought I was right. Now I just have to figure out this LDAP stuff so I can actually use it. NetInfo is kind of acting as a bridge now.

CD Tray Password lock, does it exist?

If you have MAC OS X Server 10.2 you can create a user and edit their preferences. You can disable them CD access. I think if you keep the CD in there and then log in as them it will work.

    The Dock in 10.2

ehh, i don't use Window Shade anyways. Reminds me of OS9 and when I have a lot of windows open - which I usually do it takes up a lot of screen real estate.

    launchbar replacement

With QuicKeys there is a tiny little dock that I can make with all my servers in it. There are usually 10-20 in there. I just click on the icon and it connects. I don't have to anything besides that one click. And for some reason it connects to the server faster than Apple+K Plus QuicKeys...

    NetInfo / Jaguar

I think they are moving away from NetInfo and more toward LDAP. I have reread the Jaguar Server Manual.

    The Dock in 10.2

Doesn't work with Transparent Dock though :-( I tried it for a while...it's pretty useless since the windows always stay on top. It gets rather annoying.

    launchbar replacement

QuicKeys is good. I like the that I have one set icons just to connect to my server so I don't have to put in the IP address, name and password. Can also try Keyboard Maestro.

what do you guys think of buying refurbished?

I bought a Kodak DX3700 Digital Camera (3.1 MegaPixels) refurbished off of eBay for $160. It works great. I've had it for 2 months and I'm just going now to get a memory card for it - there is internal memory which has been plenty so far but I need to take a bunch of pictures at the Jimmie's...

Burned CDs not working in real CD player.

Try a different brand of CD-R. Some players don't like certain types of media. For instance my CD Player in my Acura Integra refuses to play Ricoh's and Verbatim's but doesn't have too much trouble with other types. Sometimes it will take 30 seconds for it to recognize the first track then...

Terminal User Input into a variable for a script

So when I type this at the terminal myftpperm apple How does it know that I want apple to equal the username? This will grab the users input? It looks like I have to set the variable in the script before hand which is what I don't want to do.

Terminal User Input into a variable for a script

I have a Xserve setup as an FTP Server only. I edited the System/Library/User Templates the way I wanted but it doesn't carry over the permissions. I want to run the below script. I'm going to save it in /bin as myftpperm so it is in the root's path. Let's say I have a user named apple...

    wu-ftpd 2.6.2

That's what 10.2 Server uses. The GUI is a litte more expanded than what was in 10.1. In 10.1 you could only set the number of users and nothing else. 10.2 has a lot more stuff. It is missing something major chmod You can't change permissions via ftp which really sucks.
