Disk utility won't let me increase partitions

By the look of your screen shots, you are running Mac OSX 10.4.x (Tiger), while your friend is running Mac OSX 10.5.x (Leopard). Only Disc Utility in Leopard supports dynamic volume resizing (ie: without reformating); Disc Utility in Tiger does not.

Disk Utility Hangs When Repair Permissio

Any time you want to install an updated version of Flash, you need to use the Flash uninstaller that Adobe provide at their site. You cannot just install it over the top of the previous one. Then you can install the new version. And fix the permissions that Adobe can never get right.

    Weird File Extensions

RAR expander will work. Another tip: If you are looking for help, perhaps it's unwise to show that you are requesting it put together a pirated movie (the Death Race 2008 – the new remake of the classic Death Race 200).

Installing CS3 for first time on Leopard

I just had to do this on two Intel iMacs in our Art Studio. I deathorised CS2 first, to avoid any potential serial number issues, even though I was using an official CS3 upgrade license. Take your time and uninstall CS2, following the directions as closely as you can. Adobe ask you to...

Samba file sharing fails over Ad-Hoc WiFi, works over Ethernet

I've run into a strange problem at work with our networking arrangement, which I hope someone can assist with. Our marketing company has a art dept comprising 2 brand new Intel iMacs running Leopard 10.5.4, and one of our old PPC eMacs running Tiger 10.4.11. We have been mounting the...

Unable to boot from CD/Reinstall everything

From that error message, it sounds like the Install CDs you have might be for an Intel iMac, not the PowerPC iMac you have there.

switching default app for file type

RCDefault App is a preference pane that allows for advanced control over file associations, which I've found very useful over the last few years.

Sims 2 unstable after 10.5 upgrade

have you got the Rev F patch installed? If so, where can you get it? It's supposed to be a couple of hundred Meg, but downloading the update from the developer results in an 85Mb file that won't patch the app. It DOES mount though (the disc image with the update in, I mean).

Often this can be a sign that your Modem/router can be in need of a reboot.

    Convert BluRay Disks to AppleTV

First you will need a BluRay disc drive for your mac to even read the BluRay disc (you can get these, but they aren't cheap). The you will need software to crack the encryption (much tougher than DVD encryption, but it has also been done). Then you will need software to transcode the BluRay data...

    Firewire with a Classic

Nope. Afraid not. The last iPod to support both USB2 and Firewire was the iPod Photo. The Generation 5 and later iPods are all USB2 only.

Mail crashing on launch after 10.4.11 Update

Hi All. I did the OSx 10.4.11 update last night with a full Combo updater over a 10.4.10 system (I always use combo updates as they are usually MUCH more reliable). Following this, Mail.app crashes on launch in ALL accounts (starts in dock, then disappears without showing any windows etc). So...

Anyone here running an iPhone in New Zealand?

No one can FORCE you to update the firmware. They can only entice you with added features. I also give it about a week total before Apple's firmware is hacked or worked around, before the unlocked phones are free again, if the PSP modding community is anything to go by.

    I have no contract.

Do you get a SIM in the box? I assume you do, and it's just attached to whatever plan you choose.

Exporting PDF/X-able Postscript files from QuarkXPress7

May I also suggest checking your flattening settings in Quark (for processing transparencies, etc), and instead print to a postscript file, which you can either place in, or print to a Distiller Watched Folder. As long as the other computer has access to all the same fonts (unless they are...

I am forced to upgrade but I need OS9

Adobe Indesign opens Pagemaker files, as does Pagemaker 7. Both of which run fine on OSX.

Anyone here running an iPhone in New Zealand?

I now know that there are no problems running an iPhone on Vodaphone NZ's EDGE network. There is even a company importing them from the US. They do not perform the unlocking, but that is (relatively) trivial to accomplish, thanks to the iPhone Dev Team.

Anyone here running an iPhone in New Zealand?

I've discovered that Vodaphone here in New Zealand has an EDGE based network option, and I've heard that at least a couple of people here in NZ who have imported their own iPhones to run on it, now that they've been unlocked from AT&T. Is there anyone here (or know anyone) from NZ that has...
