Mac & excel file transfer from windows to mac

May I say one thing. You are obviously VERY apprehensive about your move to the Mac. Like many PC users you base that on all the difficulties that you have endured under Windows. You have an absolute safety net, which is to use Boot Camp [comes free w OSX] or Parallels or VMware Fussion or...

Mac & excel file transfer from windows to mac

Get and use OpenOffice [free]. There should be no problem. iWork's Numbers and Pages will also open them but are less compatible. If you really must, get Microsoft Office 2008. It looks nice but there seems to be a lot of people who are migrating away from it.

Just simply drag them into iTunes and then clean up the usual PC mess with the names. :)

    DVD Burning on MAC

Ahh on rereading your post I understand what you are saying. It is DVD movies you want to copy and burn. That's easy. MacTheRipper [free] to RIP and Handbrake [free] to compress. You can substitute Toast in for Handbrake above and do the full hog of creating menus etc but I don't burn DVDs...

    DVD Burning on MAC

All the answers to your questions and more will be found at MacUpdate. You can see not just specific software with links and summaries but user comments and alternatives. IMHO the Mac offers many more and superior methods of burning CDs and DVDs than Windows where the whole process is usually...

How to create an Alias for an application?

Have a look at Overflow it will likely be a better solution. It runs as an application so you can command tab to it, then make your selection at any time. It also holds links to folders and frequently used documents sorted however you like.

Can someone please give me one good reason to upgrade to Snow Leopard?

I have said I won't until it makes sense. The question was really rhetorical, just coming after a protracted bout of trying to fix iWork users' problems since upgrading. I keep asking them why did they upgrade, since it has so little to offer. It isn't that it has "less bugs than Leopard", it...

Can someone please give me one good reason to upgrade to Snow Leopard?

I don't think I said that at all. The real reasons for upgrading in fact won't kick in till much later when developers start writing for the multi-threading etc. Since I haven't upgraded it isn't hurting me but it is hurting the people I support who have upgraded (foolishly IMHO) or were...

Can someone please give me one good reason to upgrade to Snow Leopard?

No way. I do support in Apple's iWork forum and the problems with installation, fonts and opening Word documents and templates are legion. Apple managed to stuff up the Hoeffler Text font that is featured in most of their templates so that they wouldn't open, without saying why. I am still...

Can someone please give me one good reason to upgrade to Snow Leopard?

Please, just one? I'd even settle for maybe half a reason. "It's a smaller install" - You get to download what they didn't install. "It got rid of all the old bugs in Leopard" - Nah still there, with some new ones as bonuses. "All those improvements" - Crippled QuickTime? "Fixed the bug in...

    New iMac 27

You are lucky. Over at the Apple forums is a huge list of users with video problems, some of whom have had 3 iMacs in a row with the same video glitches. It is starting to look like there are problems with the custom built models and their ATI video Cards. I like the new model a lot too...

What is up with my iMac?

If the GPU "has fallen off of the motherboard" I doubt that he'd be getting anything on his screen let alone a faint red flicker.

What is up with my iMac?

Is it a white iMac 24"?, because both my son's iMacs are doing exactly the same thing. We have been considering whether the graphics card or VRAM have developed a fault. Both iMacs tend to lock up at odd intervals as well. I have not been able to associate the problem with any particular...

Automator's "images to PDF" command put the pages out order

There is a quirk in OSX that items dragged from List View are processed out of order. Try changing the Finder to Column View then selecting and dragging the files.

I think being able to use TextMate would be enough reason to choose the Mac. RapidWeaver would come second.
