you're right. i checked again and noticed various animated gifs and banners on the page i was browsing. but still, my other browsers don't suck up that many cycles when hidden.

i don't get it. what are you guys all talking about? osx runs just fine on my 500mhz cube, this is neither a mp machine, nor does it have that fancy 133mhz bus and ram. i've completely banned os9 from my disk some time ago and i'm not crying one single tear after it.

it's nice but sucks up way too much processor time when hidden. top displays mozilla jumping between 0.4 and 88(!)%. a bit odd if you ask me.

i'd regulate access by creating a new group, e.g. 'guests' and putting your 'guest' account into that group. since it's a new group and nothing's 'chmod'-ed to give it any access, it shouldn't have any rights on your system files and such. you just have to chmod the directories and files it...

crossfading effects are computed on the fly as far as i know. so it should work while playing cd's too, haven't tried it yet though...

so far i've made some good experiences with jamby's ffmpeg plugin (www.macdivx.com). pretty much every divx i tried worked well. the other codec's not very optimized at the moment, but it offers some nice after-processing option, which should kick in once speed is improved.

took me about 7 seconds with ie 5.1 on x.1.2 i'm on a 512 cable line and had a 32k/sec download going on. ^^

never used vcd's yet and it's unlikely i ever will, so i'm pretty neutral about this.

sheesh... what took these macromedia dudes that long? anyhoo, works quite well with IE, netscape doesn't recognize text input, omniweb doesn't recognize it all and in opera it's way too slow.

no aqua theme so far. didn't apple prohibit it anyway? as for tabs, you can also open new tabs by hitting command + T. the stuff's actually pretty useful, you don't have to open dozens of browser windows that clutter your desktop.

that's really strange. i haven't had any problems booting from my 9.1 cd so far, i just did a defrag 90 minutes ago and all went well.
