    Load balancing

Loadbalancing what? Web? Ftp? Afp? Nfs? E-mail? We're currently using Caucho Resin which is a Servlet container loadbalanced over three machines along with Apache. This is all done through round-robin in Bind though.

    Which Linux On My Mac

I would go for Debian even if the procedure of an install is a bit quirky. Once you got it up and running, you won't regret it. The packagemanager(s) will keep you in total control of what you install and upgrade. RedHat dists tend to get pretty messy after time.. Good luck!

    Test slow page loads?

Correct me if I am wrong here, but as I understand the man pages of ipfw (the built-in firewall in OSX) it has the possibility of controlling the bandwidth. Not sure if it'll work, but maybe it's worth a try?

    HTTP folder list welcome message?

Have a look in httpd.conf for Apache (/etc/httpd/httpd.conf) and I believe you will find something in there called "ReadMe" or something. It's basically a switch you can set so that Apache displays a file called "readme.txt" or simular if one does exist in the current directory..

Hi.. Ok, I just put in a new 120Gb disk in my Xserve today. Problem is, I have to rename the disk to make the backup work properly and I only have shell access. Figured one has to use diskutil / disktool, but I just cannot seem to get it to rename. I tried: % diskutil renam...

BBEdit to Linux via secure connection

.. Actually. Just use SSH to forward a port to the FTP server. In a Terminal session, just type: %: ssh remote.server.com -L 2121:127.0.0.1:21 And then login on the remote.server.com when prompted. This way you forward your local port 2121 to remote.server.com's port 21 through SSH...

    mySQL on osx server 10.2

Ok, at least you're on the right track! :D :D :D First, try to set the mysql user as the owner of the necessary files in question: chown -R mysql /var/mysql .. and all the way down to the host.frm Let me know how it goes. //Didde.

    mySQL on osx server 10.2

Sounds like the good ol' host problem to me.. But it could be a lot of different things. Have a look in the *.err files in your data director for mySQL (think it is /var/mysql/mysql/data on OS X), they usually do the trick of telling you what is wrong. If it is the hostname which is the...

re: re: re: re: Startup items, OS X server

Ok, maybe this has been answered before somewhere but I can't find any info about it. I use Caucho Resin instead of Tomcat as a Servlet Container on OS X server 10.2.2. What I need is to boot it on startup. So, I figured I could add it to the /Library/StartupItems, right? Then I remebered...

hej stefan.. squirrelmail is nothing but a bunch of PHP's accessing the mailstorage on OS X Server meaning it'll run on the port which Apache is running on. do a search on webmail or squirrelmail in the Mac OS X server help and you'll get plenty of instructions there. it involves enabling...
