    iphoto issues

Try creating a new library by holding the alt key on startup then hold it again to switch back to the old library. This may work; http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2033961&tstart=0.

    Problem with Safari 4

Are you sure that it isn't opening in another "space"? You may want to try expose to see if the windows are somehow ending up offscreen but I find that unlikely.

    Graphics Card upgrade

You can use a graphics card that is 4x AGP compatible. You also need to make sure that it is Mac compatible. Sorry, can't name any specifics off the top of my head.

    Replacement LCD for a TiBook

I'm in the process of repairing a TiBook, 1GHz DVI. I need a new LCD, but I'm not sure if I need one from the specific DVI model, or if any 15" screen will work (from a TiBook). I think I'm going to need the DVI LCD, but the other LCDs are a lot cheaper, so I wanted to ask. Thanks!

    mac not recognising written DVD

Try testing your Mac with a known working DVD, then try testing other Macs or PCs to see if the problem is on other systems as well. You may want to try using different media to see if that is causing any problems.

    G5 not recognizing DVDs

It's likely that you have a bad disk drive, but you can try cleaning it out with a can of compressed air. Make sure you keep the can upright so as to not freeze your drive.

    migrating from 10.5 to 10.4

I'm not sure if you can do this. The data in Leopard is more "advanced" than the data in Tiger, so downgrading is a completely different process from upgrading. You can, however, copy the necessary folders and back them up to Tiger.

    Picasa and eMac

iPhoto comes to mind, it comes with iLife if you don't have it. Otherwise, there is lengthy discussion on this topic here: http://macosx.com/forums/switchers-windows-mac-converts/265366-any-good-programs-like-picasa-mac.html?highlight=picasa edit: picasa beta for mac available...

    Freezing in single user mode

It looks like the program has nothing to do with your issue, you appear to have a hard drive issue. However, you mention that you ran fsck successfully. Corruption of the system seems unlikely if you have issues on the unix level as well. Make sure you have a good amount of free space. Do you...

    idvd 140 min video burning

Try changing in iDVD preferences the setting for "Encoding", and see if you get a longer DVD. iDVD is limited in that it's going to try to convert your movie to a predesigned format. I don't know of any way to get around this, but this is why even if you have a small file, iDVD will...

    iTunes freezes every time!

I think you could have some corrupt files, but you can rule this out my importing files in groups. You can download iTunes 7 here: http://www.soft32.com/download_190785.html Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes (8.0.2)

    Can't load a mini-DVD movie into Imovie

    Deleting OS from drive

The "cleanest" solution would be to reformat the drive, backing up your necessary files first. I don't remember what drives will be formatted as in Jaguar, but you may want to update the format if it's different. There are hidden files that a simple deletion of system files might not catch...

If you performed an "upgrade and install", I would try doing a fresh "archive and install", or backup all files, then do a clean install.

QoS (Quality of Service) question for torrents/WOW

I don't know how QoS will apply to your small network, but, for bandwidth, you should be OK. Your main issue will probably be with the torrents, but you can set a limit on how much bandwidth they get from most torrent clients, also, some allow you to set times to torrent. Games, while not...

    can I clean my powerbook?

If you are planning to open the computer, it's a good idea to remove the battery as well as the power supply. Make sure you have the correct tools, or you risk stripping the screw. Usually it isn't necessary to clean the inside of laptops unless they are in a very dusty environment. You should...
