sorry I was looking in the root/Library/Prefs/folder/ I have since eliminated the other one too you mentioned and seemingly for now my aliases are still all in place. Not sure what'll happen when I restart though! - and 'No' to the 3rd party question!

Not at all what I expected.

I downloaded a trial for graphicconverter and it looks to be well on the lines of what I am looking for. Seems to be a bit like Adobe Lightroom. Has options to look at child folders and nice thumbnailed layout. Must see if you can thumbnail the folders though with images from within For example...

    Horrors of the Dock

again thanks for the feedback one and all. No the problem Salival is that it locks up altogether - sometimes even in the visible state. Magnification, everything just freezes totally. This has been happening intermittently! ANd point taken aboutthe virus scan problem - I'm gonna thrash clamXav...

Not at all what I expected.

Thanks for the quick replies - fryke I think maybe you missed what I said about iPhoto. It is lobely but can not get it to look beyond the parent folder.... meaning I have to rip through tons of folders and copy out all the images into one folder to run as a slideshow. What if I want to leave...

    Horrors of the Dock

Thanks for the tip- I have ClamXav loaded but rarely use it. I rely more on Tiger Cache cleaner to clean up some stuff and Disk Utility to repair disk permissions. Does running a virus scan actually harm the system, then? I rarely do it as I have not got the patience for it on a Mac - seems...

Not at all what I expected.

As a recent convert to mac (Never having even touched one prior to mid-September) I have had one or two niggling little issues but overall Love the OS 1000 times more that Win-DoSe. However 2 continue to bug the heck outta me! The first is an issue with QT 7 and it's support for MPeg files. I...

    Horrors of the Dock

I have a graphics tablet - but not one that works on a Mac!!! It does happen regardless of what program and It happens woith the standard Mac 'Super' Mouse. When things get really bad I plug in the MS Optical 5 Button and can work marginally better!!!

    Horrors of the Dock

Nope - I'm afraid to say it's "gone to lunch" once again. Now magnification isn't working either. I guess I am stuck with a Plain unhidable non animating dock - Lovely!!! Furthermore all the icons on my desktop simply vanished earlier on. I had to hard restart ( a couple of times). I...

    Horrors of the Dock

Hi Eric and thanks for the lightning reply. Nope - The dock was most definitely set to bottom - with hiding off it's fine (When I have this problem this is all I can do I'm afraid). Apple - opt - 8 seems to have absolulety no effect on my machine - an Intel Duo 2 (I checked out this shortcut...

    Horrors of the Dock

As a complete Mac newbie I have to say that overall I love it 1000 times (and then some) more that Billy's best - what a heap! However I am starting to have a love/hate relationship with the dock already. I choose to hide the dock to maximize my screen real estate when I am working but lately...

The ugly side of the Tiger

Nixgeek- as for thge NVidia - It's a bit more complicated in that I needed to reconfigure the drivers to allow 3d compensation for programs like Maya - the 'n' driver simply doesn't do it. So with the 'nvidia' driver installed you then need to resetr a lot of option. The result of that...

UPDATE: Have just installed Flip4Mac and if anything it's slower at opening than both WMP and QuickTime, Completely wondering if we're all on the same page here!

Okay - enough already you have me converted - another sale - kerching!!! I think it was nixgeek's comment bout 'no further development' that did it for me. Guess I did not pick up on that point if it was mentioned before. I was merely picking up on the point that some were making that WMP does...

The ugly side of the Tiger

I tried opening iPhoto and even Final Cut and other DVD type programs - none of them will recognize usb Camcorders. Therefore I would have to say it's completely unrecognized. The Sony shows up as you would expect - as a flash drive however you cannot open the containing folder as it's greyed...

What is Rosetta? I opened the original .dmg double-clicked on the .app and it installed like a charm.Works fine on my machine 10.4.8 Intel Duo iMac. No clue what Rosetta is and tried to do a search for it in Spotlight- and all I can get is IntelMacSupport.pdf. So you open an application with...
