    there should be a tine hole nearby the CD-drive, get a paperclip, straighten it, and push it to the hole, it should get the CD ou... at least in Tray-loading iMacs, maybe in slot loaders too... If not, switch the iMac on and hold the mouse button, this is common force eject removable media...

    the drive is made by Pioneer, and by googling 'dvr-104' you will find plenty of hits... ebay is one good place to try. If you want a brand new drive, you should be able to find a suitable online retailer...

    permissions are apparently screwed up... you don't have enough privileges to run them applications. Insert OS X CD and run disk utility's permission repair on the boot volume... can't do no harm:)

    As a member of Baseboard-community which is based on similar BBS-system, every time O visit these forums I find myself scrolling to the bottom of the page searching for logout... could you add logout to every forum page? it would speed things up when ppl are on public computers and sometimes...

    cheryl: I installed a new HD, so the cable could very well be out of order, will have to reopen the case soon. edX: nope, no luck on that one... it reads no CD's, and this behaviour started (?) when I inserted a burned disk with some backups... Sidenote: I'm in contact with Matsushita...

    how is performance of 10.2.3 on 233/266/333 iMac?

    on my 333 some tasks take a while to complete, but it works nice... what comes up first is HD and RAM, they need to be boosted to max if possible...

    That CD-RW is the HP external which is slaved to main HD, as stated in my footer... Besides, the original CD-ROM has no RW-capabilities whatsoever

    hmm, I'd suggest Logitech MX700, it's a superb mouse (although it has 7 buttons and scrollwheel) and installing the drivers is no big deal... Works flawlessly!

    hmm, I'm considerin doing this. I've already partitioned my drive so that there's a 500 MB partition called Swap, but some things concern me: on www.bombich.com , there are directions on how to do this feat, but it also incorporates meddling with fstabs, is this necessary?

    well, there are written directions on www.bombich.com that will help you out a wee bit. I will move my swap to it's own partition, and meddle with filesize (80MB is quite a chunk, considering a situation when you only need say 90MB, it takes out two vm-files, total 160MB)
