ok, I downloaded lame-3.93.1.tar.gz , and proceeded to compile the gem. Configure goes well, but when I try to 'make' I get these errors (plenty of them) along the process: the package it fails with following: any information to make this succeed?

mpg123 has been ported by some other guys than Apex/macosx.forked.net, apex just offers a precompiled package. it's easy to compile oneself

OS 9, you may have inadvertedly set AtEase or similar running...it prevents such actions I believe...

also ,it'd be wise to do a clean install of OS X when moving from 10.2.x to 10.2.x -> back up your home folder and all other stuff you wish to keep safe...

You need to have stuffit deluxe in order to use it via command line, and the copying will have to be done via scp (scp user@host:/path/to/the/file path/to/destination, user@host: moves depending on direction of copying, above works when copying from somewhere to your current comp) you can use...

how much HD does it need to compile? I tried compiling XDarwin-rootless with fink and 700Mb was now enough for it...

you should back up your stuff, reformat your disk and make a clean install to avoid hassles... dunno why it hangs, tho. How is your HD partitioned now?
