MacBook trackpad has died. What are the best options?

I have a 2007 MacBook 2.2 with an upgraded HD to 260GB SSD & 4Gb SDRAM. The trackpad seems to have died. Every so often it takes a single finger as a two finger gesture and goes into "right click" mode. Then after a while it goes back to normal for a time. I think that it's the trackpad...

    Sound problems on iPhone 5

Keytones and other sounds are set separately in the Settings menu. Find them in there and see if they have been turned off.

    Who's the oldest

I'm 67. I've been officially old for some years now. I found out I was old when I got on a busy bus and a lady got up and offered me her seat!!

Fixed my MacBook power supply failure.

That looks interesting! :) But maybe I'll save for a new MacBook. This one is too old for Mountain Lion. I like to keep all three computers in the house on the same system as far as possible. I don't suppose there's any need, but it's just me....

Fixed my MacBook power supply failure.

My MacBook is 6 years old. It's on its second power supply. The power supply suffered the usual broken wire and failed. I was reluctant to pay £65 to Apple for a new power supply, so I got out my knife, took the connector apart, and found that that broken wire was about 1 inch back from the...

Known Issues with Java Apps Running on Mac OS

I'm not an expert and so my reply might be complete rubbish, but I thought a .jar file was compressed in some way. If so, is the problem with the uncompressing rather than the displaying? Some while ago I came across this and noted it in case turning off Java (when the security was questioned)...

Known Issues with Java Apps Running on Mac OS

Have you got the latest Apple system upgrade? If so it may have come with Java turned off. Go to Preferences and check. Tick the Java box if you need to.

    Move To New Mac?

The eMac of seven years ago has probably reached the end of its "upgrade" life. It's a computer with the PowerPC chipset so you cannot use the latest system software. If you want to do some linking of other stuff like a phone with iTunes you may find that you cannot. Only you can say whether...

Malware on Vista via Parallels? How do I fix it?

That one, like another I found, does a free scan and then recommends that you buy the full version to do the repair. And they also find lots of things that need removal and repair. I couldn't see any reference to the "testman" problem on the list it produced either. Someone else has...

Malware on Vista via Parallels? How do I fix it?

I am using Parallels to run some old "windows only". It has been running OK for years. Last week it lost most of its functionality. It seems I have a "testman.exe" virus or malware. What is it? How do I get rid of it? Anything free out there to stop anything else getting in? I thought I...

    Updating from 10.6.8 to 10.8

You can install 10.8 Mountain Lion from any valid computer that is running 10.7 or 10.6.8. Any earlier version of 10.6 won't work. How old is your wife's computer? I can't upgrade my laptop. It's running 10.7 but the hardware won't let me go higher. Details here...

How can I reinstall MAIL without reinstalling everything?

Have you tried a "rebuild"? Probably the first step. Last item in the Mailbox menu. I don't know if you have to save anything first, but I would do some selective "Export mailbox..." at least for the critical ones. But I've no idea on a full reinstall.

    Apple drops Java

I turned off Java a few month back when the scare was first mentioned. I've never been asked to enable it on any of the dozens of websites I visit.

And have you downloaded/installed the latest version of the Airport Utility? It doesn't usually appear on the Software update. Make sure the one you use is the latest one that works with your System.

    Airport Help Needed

My son had an eMac. He had wireless problems. There were two reasons. Both fairly straightforward. His computer needed an Airport card, not an Airport Express/Extreme. Have you got the right one? What year of manufacture is your eMac? Once he had the right card, he still had...

Best way to opgrade MACPRO OSX 10.4.11

The safest way to do anything is to have an external disc and backup all your stuff to that. When I upgraded I had all my files and apps on Time Machine. I upgraded the system and then using the Migration Assistant it restarted using the last Time Machine copy. Nothing was lost. Even my...

Airport Extreme | G-drive 2TB external drive compatibility

My 2TB G-Drive is not connected to an Airport hub. It's connected to the computer and used as the Time Machine backup disc. But it has its own mains electric power supply, so I doubt that it needs power from a hub.
