    Strange Interface Builder hacks

Don't be so scared of root. Everyone is just being over cautious - it's the same access privledges as single user on OS9. The only difference, I guess, is that u can type rm *.* a lot easier than u can select a whole bunch of system files and drop them in th trash. It's generally not a good...

    Cloning OSX Machines

Okay, listen to this little problem. My school (and I'm guessinf pretty much every school) clones their machines off a base machine. So, I'm trying to get the hang of it with OSX PB before the real thing comes up and u know what hits the fan. So I booted into OS9 and used regedit to reveal...

Start up items??? ... and saved sessions in terminal

Okay, this probably seems pretty easy to everybody else, but this is stumping me - how do u make apps open on login? I know the clock that comes with OSX (which I have seen thrown away and replaced with a convient one in the upper right hand corner of my screen) did that, but how do u specify...

Classic is nothin' - it's all TruBlueEnvironment

Actually, Classic performs NONE of the actions the MacOS9 Finder performed. Just try booting TruBlue by itslef; u get the same functionality as without Classic. And if you like the finder so much, just double clikc on it in the system folder of OS9. I've heard other people have problems with...

Classic is nothin' - it's all TruBlueEnvironment

Nope. TruBlue is like any other app - if it crashes, it doesn't effect the rest of the system.

    System Preferences not working

I moved my system preferences from the applications folder to the utilities folder 'cause I thought it made more sense in there. Unfortuntaley, you can't get to it from the "apple menu" then. Just move system preferences back to the applications folder and all will be well. HTH, F-bacher

Classic is nothin' - it's all TruBlueEnvironment

Everyone keeps mentioning that if you quit out of classic (specifically, if you kill it) trublueenvironment will still run. In fact, CLassic apps can still run without classic. The reason is: Classic does nothing really important. If you open up the Classic package, you'll find...

    Funniest App EVER!

Yeah, this would be a great app.. if it wasn't so SINFULL. ... and you gave us the unlock password to unstuff it ... :) F-bacher

    GUI Front-ends

Uhmmm... I'm pretty sure Java2 is completely integrated into OSX as is. I'm not sure if I understand ur question, though... I can compile and run java code fine from terminal, and u can use project manager to make gui java apps. I hope I actually answered your question. F-bacher

    Good ol' Apple

WOW! 7 posts; that's a lot of comments. I hope to reach that number some day :) I'm don't know if apple is sending surveys to everyone or even planning on it... but a few thousand of those surveys would suck to look at. They already get tons of feedback as it is, and apple employs addmit...

    they way things were....?

Actually, I think what your experiencing with classic is how it is suppose to work. A lot of people were expecting Classic to be in a little window like VirtualPC, but I bet if you look at the dock after you try to boot classic, you'll c the finder icon with a 9 over it (aka classic). The...

    Needs to be restarted eh?

This fixed was posted a week ago or so on mosr.com: Timothy Hatcher sent in this UNIX shell script that will restart the various networking daemons without a full-blown system reboot, allowing the user to reconfigure network settings without restarting OS X. To make use of this script...

Bug with Microsoft software using Microsoft services

I didn't know whether to get really mad or break out laughing when I found this - every time I try to log into hotmail using explorer, I get redirected to a screen prompting me to enter my password again. No, matter what I do, I end up at this screen. Note: this was not accompanied by an error...

    Launching the finder...

I don't know what's wrong with the rest of your guys computers (I'm guessing my 333 Imac is just superior :)), but double clicking on the finder works great on my computer. I even put an alias to it in OS9 startup items so it automatically runs everytime Classic boots up. One thing I did...

    OS X & Case-Sensitive Unix Commands

... then are you asking whether "pico myproject.txt" and "pico myProject.txt" would be two different things. And they are. OSX is case sensitive (if it wasn't, there would be some major conlicts between the case-sensitive unix core). HTH, Ghoser777

    Some Unix Knowledge

I am by no means a java expert, but javac and java work fine on my slow, 333mhz imac with only 64 MB of ram - I even spanked the unix servers on our campus by a good five seconds when calculating primes. I'm guesing your specific problem deals with calling classes that you've always assumed...
