How do you make .iso files in OSX?

I'm not sure if osX has it but in freebsd, there is a mkisofs command for the command line. Check to see if Darwin has it too.

res problem -- but not with osx

Try hitting ctrl alt - or ctrl alt +. Xfree86 toggles its various resolutions with those keystrokes. Or you could ssh into your box and change the settings the /etc/X11/XF86Config file so that it will not ever attempt to go into such a high resolution in the future.

I got SMB printing to work!!!

I went home and verified that if you install the Ghostscript program found at gimp-prints site, photoshop and other postscript outputting software does in fact print now. Not sure if anyone cares, but there you have it.

    CD disk images.....

but I think you have to install a no cd crack that can usually be found in illicit warez channels... PM me for the channel I saw it in. Since you have legally purchased your copy, I wouldn't, if I were you, have an ethical problem with using that sort of crack to make it work the way you...

    Emergency... Network help please ...

The script kiddies aren't probing your machine... other already compromised IIS windows servers are. This is how the virus spreads. Microsoft stuff is vastly less secure, hence everyone's efforts in trying to break into them. You are running a BSD system, which by its very nature is way more...

I got SMB printing to work!!!

I GOT SMB Printing to work. Here is my setup... Please move this to the HOW-TO section. 1. Powerbook G4 550 connected to the network via airport 2. FreeBSD PC running FreeBSD 4.6 STABLE 3. Windows XP PRO PC with HP Deskjet 841C via USB. Now I wanted a way to for share the printer...

    Samba Passwords

Change the password on the macs and then change them back again. This forces the macs to actually run the smbpasswd program and thus sets your password for samba. that is what I had to do to get it working. Good Luck

    softwarebased DSL-router under osx

Generally, if you are using a standalone router for your DSL connection... you are always online. This is the reason why firewalls and other security measures are important when using DSL or Cable routers. Now some people have USB DSL "modem" (incorrect term in reality but they seem like a...

I can't believe this is working...

unless its Perl, I probably would be scratching my head more than actually getting a port out the door. I guess I was speaking more as sysadmin than a programmer. I find the ports collections to be more convenient than the fink solution. I guess you see my point though...

    Multihoming under OS X

Set up an alias IP for your nic card(follow the directions that bluehz attached to do that) then configure apache for IP based virtual hosting. Granted, unless you have a compelling reason for having both of these websites on a different IP address, you should stick with name based...

I can't believe this is working...

Coming from the FreeBSD world, I long for the day when a similar ports collection gets implemented. Fink is ok in the time being, but the FreeBSD ports collection is IMHO much simpler, and way more comprehensive. I recall an article where Jordan Hubbard's wish list included a more...

CUPS listening when Printersharing is off

much like lpd is... it gets started at bootup and runs and runs etc. Not only is cups used for printer sharing, in 10.2 it also allows someone to print from your mac to 1) another machine's printer via IPP or lpd protocals 2) a locally installed but unsupported by apple or hp etc printer...

    Unmount

if you are running osx.2 and did an upgrade instead of a fresh install, you have to change your password for it to run the smbpasswd program which sets your samba passwd. So change your password then change it back, and it should work.

    net info

it replaces many of the /etc configuration files that are normally used when your mac boots into multi-user mode. When it single user mode, your mac will read the /etc config files to get you up and running enough to fix any issue you may have that required you to boot into single user mode in...

disk copy and itunes burning question

I just bought a firewire enclosure form my Ricoh DVD/cdrw drive that was installed in my PC. I hook it up and all appears to work fine. I can play DVD's with it, I can mount CD's and cdroms... but the one thing I couldn't do was burn a cd. When I go to the system profiler, it shows all the...
