    Anyone have Acrobat 5?

If anyone purchases this package and installs it, please let us know how it performs under Mac OS X. Unfortunately, the only Reader available for download as of this posting is still version 4. :( As soon as the reader is available in version 5, I look forward to testing it out and seeing...

Help! Can't recognize hard drive after OSX/9.1 install

What version of Drive Setup did you use? If it was for a version of Mac OS before 9.1, it might be that. I probably should have suggested you boot from the 9.1 disk that came with Mac OS X. Let me know if that helped. If not, I'll wrack my brain for some other solutions. How about...

    Simple question...

Actually, I think ladavacm is right. I must have posted it here and not in the correct place. Sorry about that. I'm usually better about these things. I know I didn't cross-post it and I just went over to the newbies forum and it's not there. I'm also befuddled as to why most of the...

When I tried control-dragging items in the IE toolbar, IE unexpectedly quit. What a quitter that program is. :)

Oops! Yes, you're right. I did mean to type command-drag. File another one under "I just found out, but you may have already known": Although control-clicking an icon in the Dock pops up the context-sensitive menu for that item (which often contains the command "Show In Finder")...

    FREE user@macosx.com accounts?

I don't seem to have that option. Where is that located? Maybe it is turned on only for the more prolific (or seasoned) posters.

Maybe this one's obvious to everyone, but Command-clicking the icons in a program like Mail or Finder allows you to customize the toolbar without having to open the Prefs windows.

Thanks for the tip! I love learning this stuff.

    Simple question...

I'm trying to fire off a long command in Terminal by typing in a much shorter command. For example: I'd like to be able to type: "smgo" and have it resolve to: "smbclient \\\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -W DomainName" Another Mac person at the office who also knows a bit about Unix told me to...

Didn't I see something in the FAQ about the possibility of being allowed to create a custom status (is this the same as the rank)? Maybe after posting 3-400 messages, you could be allowed to customize your rank title. Just a thought.

    Simple question...

Cool! That seems to work. So why didn't my office mate's suggestion work? Why did he suggest .profile? Was the "=" superfluous? Oh, BTW, although I've been putzing around in various flavors of Unix for quite a number of years, I've never done much more than simple Web and Work related...

    FREE user@macosx.com accounts?

I have to admit that I have a hard time justifying paying $10 or $15 just to get another email address - cool though the domain and its resources are. :) Maybe you could work out something like giving out email addresses to people who are senior members (i.e. rewards for examplary...

Help! Can't recognize hard drive after OSX/9.1 install

I ran into a similar situation with Public Beta a while back. Maybe someone will have a better solution, but if no one else writes back, consider this: 1) Boot using the CD that came with your system. 2) Run the program "Drive Setup." 3) In the program's window, look under "List of...

    Problems with Classic

This is a great idea. If someone (maybe eve *gasp* Apple?) would create a System Pref allowing you to do two things: 1) Completely disable Classic Mode 2) Require user confirmation to launch Classic mode I would be very happy.

    Problems with Classic

I completely agree. I hope that Apple will tweak things so that when you click on a document that can be handled by a Carbonized app, it will be. For now, I've added an alias of Expander to my dock. I'm considering doing the same for TextEdit. Not an elegant solution, but it does work.

    Silly Dock Trick

I noticed that yesterday when I installed Space Dock (for vitual desktops). It works using this hiding feature so everytime to change virtual desktops and you had a window minimized, you see this event. At first I didn't realize why this was happening. Pretty cool. Oh, I almost...

    Change Startup Disks During Boot

My latest guess is that the code was there for this functionality to support all compatible Macs in the PB. The final release (10.0) changed the code so it was only comptible with computers with the new world ROMs. Hopefully they will change it back or someone will compose a little BootX-like...
