If the G5 is true, are you buying one?

Yup. I let my soon-to-be-ex wife keep the 2000 vintage PowerMac (I bought it when the OSX Public Beta first became available) with the idea that I would want to upgrade to the 970 as soon as possible. I'll probably aim at the low to mid range PowerMacs and add a nice LCD monitor and a Formac...

    what a nice mail.app!

Great! Now I find that not only does Mail arbitrarily wrap plain-text formatted email at a perverse 70 characters, but if you tell it to send in rich-text format, but then don't do anything fancy with the font, it ignores you and sends in plain-text with the premature line-wrap crap...

    what a nice mail.app!

I have noticed that on outgoing plain-text emails, Mail arbitrarily wraps the lines at right around 70 charcters. I have found no way to turn this annoying behavior off, other than to send in rich-text only. I have notified Apple of this bug.

    Virtual desktops

Spaces is great, but it is not as well integrated as the multiple desktops of CDE. CDE allows you to have different windows from one application in different desktops. Spaces requires that all the windows of one application be in the same desktop. That is limiting. But still I love...

    OSX preinstalled starting TODAY

In my opinion, Monday will be a great day in the long history of Unix.

    mail.app line wrap

I have noticed that my outgoing plain text email arrives with the lines prematurely wrapped (around 68 chars per line). When I send email to myself, I do not see this, but if I send email to MS Outlook on OS 9 or to Netscape 4.77 on Solaris, then the email is prematurely wrapped. When I use...

OmniWeb - What am I missing?

I have yet to get OmniWeb rc1 on 10.0.2 to crash. That is a huge difference over the old OmniWeb. Ie is slow & ugly, so why bother? On a 450MHz G4 with 256MB, OmniWeb comes up in 16 bounces, down from 37 with the first OS X public release. This is with UFS, perhaps HFS is faster, I don't know.

    Tenon X Tools

Sorry to hear of your difficulties! I have installed (and paid for!) the final version of Xtools. I have seen none of the problems you experienced. I love Xtools. (Now if only it came with Xemacs... Then I'd have it all!) NB: This is all on a PowerMac G4, using UFS formatted HD that is...

Is it my install or is X too slow

I read on MacNN about opening up a terminal app and entering the command: "sudo update_prebinding -root /". This has something to do with helping the CPU to navigate the filesystem faster? It takes about 15 minutes to complete. They say this is done when you install the developer's tools...

    Spaces Please

Thank you, Sir/Maam/Whatever! I am that ambitious, and that claustrophobic too. I edited .../Space_Dock/Space.dock/Contents/info.plist Found the offending lowercase "space" and capitalized it. I am now a man of many desktops! I will remember you at Xmas! :-)

    Spaces Please

Thanks. I downloaded the new spaces and it did not work at all.... And I'm reading quotes from all these people that love it, so I'm thinking that this is a personal problem. Then on 4/4, the Sourceforge website indicated a problem where spaces does not work on UFS filesystems. That'd be my...

OmniWeb - What am I missing?

Omniweb is faster than IE. The colors on OmniWeb are more vivid and the lines are sharper.... The web is a much more beautiful place on Omniweb.

    Spaces Please

On the public beta I was using a "shareware" multiple desktops utility called Spaces. Now I can't find it for 10.0. I assume that it needs some updating. I miss it very much! Coming from the Unix world, this life with only one desktop is way too claustrophobic. Does anybody know where...

    OmniWeb 4.0 Final Candidate 1

Yes, and that crashed. So Omnigroup told me to update to the newer version 3. So I did. And that went off into the endless-spinning-rainbow-disk-syndrome. My dear OmniWeb is like the proverbial Italian sportscar.... so beautiful, yet so tempermental. I can't leave her. No. Never.

Is it my install or is X too slow

I have been running OS X public beta since October, 2000. OSX 10.0 is noticeably slower than the public beta. I find myself glaring at that spinning rainbow disk much more than I used to be. This is disappointing, as some here indicated that the more recent OS X loads were 3 times faster...
