preventing second HD from going to sleep

I'm seeing the same issue (only with 10.1) with a very similar setup (except IBM and Samsung 30 and 40GB drives), and I do have energy saver set to not mess with the drives. No biggie, but I'm worried about wear and it is a bit annoying.

QT and 10.1 major speed problems

X can already play all those divx videos (as well as the related 3vix codec) via a handy freeware plug in available from http://divx.jamby.net/ Just drop it in the QT folder and boom! System-wide, native divx from within any QT-aware app--not even a restart necessary. For all the months of...

    Finder Disk Info

Thank you! Yes, that's exactly what I was talking about, and it looks like I was just too stupid to look in such an obvious place. I'm pretty sure it wasn't there under 10.0.X (and I hope so, or I'm going to feel even dumber).

QT and 10.1 major speed problems

I'm going to have to partially disagree with the porting theory; I do think it has to do with a "get it working" port, but since the problem is just with the MPEG decoder, I'm a bit skeptical that it has much to do with threading issues. I just did a couple of minutes worth of testing, and I...

    Finder Disk Info

I'm sure I remember screenshots of betas of 10.1 showing an OS9-style bar at the top of windows that shows currently available disk space, etc. That's probably the second biggest thing I miss from the Classic era, so I'm wondering if that feature was dropped, if I'm just too stupid to find how...

Speed up the mouse in 10.1!

Funny, I've always found the akward acceleration curve on MS systems makes them incredibly annoying to use. Anyway I don't think that's easily adjustable (and in a perhaps selfish way I'm glad, since it's one of those little things that creates the "Mac feel").

    Rhapsody mockup shot, circa 1997

A couple of things: One, the icon mask for dock icons doens't matter as far as I can tell. Try it--scroll down to the very bottom of the screen and click below a dock icon--it'll activate even though you're not "on" the icon. So, basically, the dock acts like it has seperated buttons...

QT and 10.1 major speed problems

I'm a bit confused that it hasn't been mentioned more, but the problem with MPEG video has existed since 10.0.0 on my machine, and is still there in 10.1--I'm pretty sure that it's related to QT, not the OS itself. At least in my case, though, (and I have a DP533, so I'll admit I'm throwing a...

    Thanks Apple

First of all, I third that symphonix put it succinctly and beautifully. I've got my eye candy, most of the apps I know and love now "just work", and yet there's Apache, the terminal, and the wild world of unix just sitting there, eminating power. Second, I'm new around here, but I've been a...

10.1 release slower then 5g27 on my dual

First off, I use Macs because they both rock and work for me; despite years of virulently bashing PCs (and with good reason), I won't begrudge anyone their Windows OS or box if they feel that it works better for them. I'm also not going to point fingers, scream, or flame. But... I'd like to...

    10.1 performance report

I agree that, seen from an Apple-booster/altruistic point of view, it would be very nice for G3/slower machines to perform well using X. But, I wanted to point out that even if Apple is shooting for the other 95%, they really don't have to worry about, say, Beige G3 owners. That is, even if...

    IP-over-IEEE1394 and OS X 10.1

I can understand wanting as many options open as possible, and it would be nice to see IP over FireWire, but I don't think 10.1 has it--at least, I haven't heard so much as a peep about it, so I figure it's not likely included at this point. Then again, I'll chime in with the "not necessary"...
