    OSx86: Are You Serious?

Yes, this is a very simple extension of what Apple already does today with various OS installers. The OS gives all applications access to hardware level identifications. This is some of the very detailed information you see in Apple System Profiler. Like applications, the OS can simply look at...

    Ibook Restarted Into Hell!

Did you have the Command + S keys pressed when you started up? That would boot the machine in single user mode...

    iBook sale causes stampede...

Okay... So if that is what machines they were talking about, then do you think they would be correctly described as having "less-than- desirable attributes". IMHO any machine capable of running OS X is a good machine... especially for $50. I absolutely would have got in line for one! I just...

    parallel port

Back to your original idea... You could always install this ATA drive inside a G3 or other tower machine... ...and then connect it to your eMac using a firewire cable with the G3 in "target disk mode".

    Odd Anacron error message

A very long time ago I installed Anacron and configured it to do the regular hourly/daily/montly cleanup work. Just this week something odd started happening. I have a password protected disk image that I periodically mount. It seems this was mounted when Anacron started it's cleanup work. At...

    Very Disappointed with Firefox

If I could just wean my Mom of Internet Explorer, I'd be happy. Like most Mac users she needs multiple browsers just to complete various banking and other day-to-day tasks. But when she's "play" surfing she still uses IE.

Sick of sites that don't support Macs

Would you like that to "universally" support all of the various security/privacy/virus bugs in today's browsers? What would you have it do for things that todays browser render differently, and where there is not accepted "right" way to render it? I.e. it has to pick something? Would it...

Macosx.com Mug (was: Shame on MacOSX for Emailing Me)

Oh... and make sure the mug is BIG. You don't want to make us have to keep running back to get more coffee every 15 minutes. The bigger the mug the more uninterupted time we spend on MacOSX.com absorbing Google Ads. ;)

Macosx.com Mug (was: Shame on MacOSX for Emailing Me)

My favorite mug is the VI Reference Mug. Maybe your MacOSX.com one can use that idea as inspiration... And if you do it right, you can release a new "updated" version with each Mac OS release. i.e. MacOS.com's Panther vs. Tiger mugs! :D

Sick of sites that don't support Macs

I simply don't spend my money on products made by companies that clearly don't want my business. My #1 rant in life is wanting to spend money at some company that makes doing so DIFFICULT. Hell... Don't then want my money? It's here for the taking if they just try...

    parallel port

Mac parallel ports are not the same as PC parallel ports... I've never heard of a parallel port hard drive. That does not sound right. To me it also sounds like a SCSI.

Slow Wireless on PowerBook fast on iBook

Also note that if you run and AirPort and AirPort Exteme machine at the same time the Airport (router) itself will slow down to AirPort speeds... However it might have to do extra negotiation with the AirPort Exterme enabled machine to get it to communicate at the slower speed. The Airport...

Slow Wireless on PowerBook fast on iBook

Are they each configured the same way: 1) Are both using static or DHCP IP addresses? 2) Do both have the same DNS servers listed in the same order? DNS lookups definately can slow things down if the first couple servers listed are not working...

Macosx.com Mug (was: Shame on MacOSX for Emailing Me)

Maybe we should make a forum called /dev/null for posts such as these... The poster would get all the satisfaction of writing and posting... but they'd safely go to a place where they'd not "burn" any other forum users. :D
