    Desktop folder at root level?

No, the Desktop folder is a folder with 0 items in it. The Desktop (Mac OS 9) alias opens the Mac OS 9 Desktop Folder, containing several items that I put on the os 9 desktop myself.

    Desktop folder at root level?

I've got what seems to be an extra folder named Desktop at the root level of my startup HD on my Tibook. Not to be confused with the OS9 Desktop alias. On another machine on which I just re-installed 10.2.6, there is no such folder. I've had the Tibook since Dec., and the folder is dated...

    X-Forwarding, this oughta work!

SUCCESS! Not knowing how to re-start the sshd daemon, I tried logging out/in on the host machine, which didn't help. I then re-start the host machine, and voila! Gimp running on host, displaying on client. So it looks like setting X11 Forwarding in sshd_config did the trick, where setting...

    X-Forwarding, this oughta work!

Thanks for the info. I've got X11 Forrwarding set to yes in ssh_config as apple's info suggests, and in sshd_config as you suggest. Still getting the Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

    X-Forwarding, this oughta work!

So I tried setenv DISPLAY :0, even though apple's own FAQ suggests that ssh -X should do this for me. NOW, entering /sw/bin/gimp-1.2 on the CLIENT causes gimp to run on the HOST not on the CLIENT. One step closer, eh?

    X-Forwarding, this oughta work!

OK, this really should be working! Host and client machines are running X11 beta 3 host is running Gimp installed via fink, it runs fine locally I'm using a wireless router/switch, host wired, client wireless, and am using MAC address filtering for security. No firewalls anywhere. (if...

    Help Removing Gimp

I installed a version of Gimp in January that is incompatible with Fink, and would like to remove it and go with Fink. It's Gimp 1.2.3, I got it off VersionTracker, it was an Installer package. The Receipt file is dated 1/7/03. I'm running Apple's X11 beta 3. Hope this is enough info...

    Cannot mount .dmg files

Nope, there's 20 gigs available on the drive. I can't figure out what's going on with this. Opening .dmg files seems like a pretty standard feature of OS X. I CAN reinstall the whole thing, but I shouldn't really have to!!

I copied DiskCopy from the TiBook (it works there) to the B&W and got the same error. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Cannot mount .dmg files

On my TiBook DiskCopy works fine, as it has for some time on my B&W G3 with G4 upgrade. All of a sudden today the B&W will not mount a .dmg image. I consistently get the error: "Filename.dmg" failed to mount due to error 95. (no mountable file systems) This happens with every file I try...

PostgreSQL 7.3 - using Copy command

I found the problem. Instead of using: dgdb=# copy customer from '/Users/dg/Desktop/Customers.txt'; I instead tried: dgdb=# copy customer from '/Users/dg/Customers.txt'; This works just fine.

    Macintosh HD is sometimes read-only?

My main (root?) directory was set to read-only for awhile, and I don't know why. I created several folders there recently, then could not modify them for several days. Now, it's read/write again. Any ideas?
