    Quicksilver has Build 4R14

That is not what is odd about this... The build that I have installed on my G4 400 is 10.0.4 4Q12. This is the latest version that you can download from the Apple website. This is 10.0.4 4R14. NEWER than what is available for public download.

    Is OSX for me?

A few more things... I read something saying that Quark is completely all for the OS X Bandwagon, but that it will not have a native version for a year and a half. They want to release version 5 first, and then Carbonize it (sounds a little backwards to me). They said that they did market...

    Is OSX for me?

To answer your question, "it depends". First let me say that I love OS X. I actually miss it when I am working in 9 at my work (prepress graphic arts house). But there is still a few problems that need ironing (most of which will be fixed in 10.1). OS X is the most beautiful computer OS...

    Quicksilver has Build 4R14

I just noticed this, and found it odd. This is the new 733mhz G4 that Apple released just a few weeks ago. Ships with OS X preinstalled (no developer tools) but boots up with OS 9.2 by default.

    Benchmark your Mac

I just benchmarked the macs at work with the GUI version. Both running 10.0.4 G3 iMac 233 = 4.056667 G4 Quicksilver 733 = 1.486667 I was expecting the 733 to be closer to 1.2 or even 1.1 which would be nearly 2x faster than my 400 G4 at home. The math works out to be what I would...

    Browserwar turnaround?

I got it straight from Omni that they will be releasing OmniWeb 4.1 in September. What I really hope is that when OS X 10.1 is released, there will be a preinstalled version of OmniWeb and IE. With this anti-trust thingie, I can't believe that Apple would support them by only preinstalling...

    9.2 only for new G4?

I have the new 733 Quicksilver at work with 9.2 installed. Because we are a graphics house, I wiped X when I formatted the drive. Working in 9.2, I have not noticed anything different between 9.1, and it does not seem that you are able to download it from Apple yet. It does seem strange...

    Dual 800 PowerMac

The way Intel makes their chips, all of the chips are the same and they just lock the clock multiplier depending on what speed they are branding. There was even a time when the Pentium and the Celeron were identical twins and they just burned out part of the cache memory. I just got the...

Audio VST plug-ins right into OS X

Steinberg is not going to do that. It would be really cool, but they want you to buy one of their Cubase programs. VST is the core of CubaseVST. If someone were to write a shareware OS X MIDI software and Steinberg were to release their plug-in architechure, someone could pay a fraction the...

    10.1 when in September?

chances are, it will be delayed. The copies that are floating around are just too buggy for 10.1 to be released in 40 days. I say middle of October. This is just a guess, with no special facts to back me up. I just don't see how it can possibly be ready by September.

    quickbench

If your computer is doing anything else at the same time, it is going to slow down. If you were copying files, surfing the web, or even if you click on the finder and the program was running in the background. There is a utility that you can use that is in your Utilities folder in your...

    Benchmark your Mac

I suppose that gigaflops only counts "floats" and not "doubles"... so this benchmark wouldn't really apply. I was wondering about this because it seems as if the Pentium and AMD processors were finishing (per clock) about 50% slower than the G4 (400mhz G4 ?= 600mhz P3). If this were true...

    Benchmark your Mac

I laid in bed the other night (not able to sleep) trying to figure out why the code I wrote for the progess bar wasn't working the way I expected it to. That night I came up with this solution instead... <pre> [ProgessBar setDoubleValue:0.0]; [ProgessBar displayIfNeeded]...

    Benchmark your Mac

here is a little more info about the Quickbench.app rharder has been working on a random number generator benchmark (dubbed quickbench) and has posted his code in the thread "Quick math benchmark for you to run". To be perfectly honest, I am just learning how to program in C and Objective-C...

    Benchmark your Mac

This is a little CPU benchmark utility that was written by rharder. This benchmark calculates 10 million very complicated high precision random numbers and records the time that it took to complete the task. This is not a multi-threaded application, so only one processor will be used. I...

Quick math benchmark for you to run

This is the Project Builder and Interface Builder source code for the Quickbench. I stuffed both of these files using DropStuff 6.01, so they should be able to be opened on any OS X Mac. They are really SIT files, not ZIPs.

Quick math benchmark for you to run

I decided as an experiment to put a Cocoa frame around Quickbench. I wanted to have a progress bar, and in the code I have it incrementing, but the calculations take up all of the processing so it does not show up until the end. (useless, yeah). If I forced Cocoa to update the Progress Bar...

    QuickTime _very_ slow on X

kilowatt: A lot of it has to do with how your hard drive is set up to play movies of that size. If you are running on standard old IDE drives that ship with the computer, you are going to have a trouble reading that much data that fast. Check to see what your hard drive specs are... if...
