    Too many Cds

It boots to the Apple screen, then nothing for, oh, a good 45-60 minutes. I got it installed, I just had to pull out a bright pink CD-R from a drawer. P.S.: I also enjoy seeing the build numbers on cds after a year or two. I still have a 4K78 (before it was relabeled as GM) lying about someplace.

    Too many Cds

Yeah, they aren't that bad in cost. For some reason Disc 1 had to be a CD-R for me, otherwise my Mac wouldn't boot into the Install. Hmm. Speaking of install, the installer is a bit different: the initial boot screen, as well as the descriptions. The Read Me PDF on CD 1 no longer says...

    Too many Cds

Same here; the CDs were a gift. I'm counting my RWs: 1... ok 2... ah 3. Well, I'm still off by 1 if I wanted XCode on a disc, but I usually just mount it and install. Here I go; long live erasable media!

    Too many Cds

Yup. I'm thinking switching to RWs: My 30-pack of CD-R has taken quite a dent. Then again, those 4x CD-RWs I have kinda are overshadowed by the 52x burner and the 48x media... maybe I'll stick with the faster burns... Ugh, I'm not sure. Too many options! :D

    ADC Seed 7B39!

Same here. I would hate to turn it on and the next morning find that all of my stuff wont open because FileVault doesn't work right. Mu guess is Apple did a lot of internal testing of it (hence the delay), but still. Here's hoping that 1) XCode is less buggy, 2) Wacom drivers work (hasn't since...

    Older System on Old Mac

Oh well, its not a big deal. I'm going to install 7.6 on it when I back it up.

    Older System on Old Mac

Thanks to both of you! I'm going to backup the drive and reformat and remove that Ethernet and see how that works. I usually can figure all of this out, but for some reason this Performa is eluding my Mac knowledge. I've probably been spoiled by my iMac/iBook and OpenFirmware for zapping PRAM...

    Older System on Old Mac

Ah... That's the problem. I was wondering about that. The Apple Ethernet Card I have will work with system 7, and I have the drivers for it. Do you think removing it and then installing the OS, then finally installing the Card & Drivers the "System 7 way" would work?

    Older System on Old Mac

Oh, and the Hardware specific install CD is for my (now dead and gone) PowerMac 5400, not the Performa.

    Older System on Old Mac

I do have a hardware-specific 7.5.3 install, but I have tried various other installers that DO install, its just that it says the system cannot boot this macintosh. It is HFS+. I don't remember for sure if System 7 will use HFS+, as I think it was a OS 8 thing. I do know OS 9 is the most...

    Slow Mo?

Ah, fun with Shift. BTW: There isn't a VPC 6.2. There is the new 6.1, but unless you like having to reactivate WinXP and re-register and look at "Microsoft" everywhere, it isn't worth it. No bug fixes at all from what I've heard.

Apple Store in Skokie, Chicago - opening 7th Nov.

Yes, there will be one. Just like Apple to put on in Skokie AFTER I move to West Virginia. That would have been right in my back yard almost ;D. Apple, here's a hint: Apple Store WV. There's plenty of space in downtown Charleston and the mall. I'd be 5 minutes away walking. Please? I'd work...

    article: Should Sony buy Apple?

Sony buy Apple? I hope not. It just doesn't make sense to me.

    Older System on Old Mac

My brother's got a Performa 6214CD we got from a university. It's nice for its time, (64 MB RAM, 1 GB HDD, I added an Ethernet card), but came with OS 9 on it, and I would rather it run in Mac OS 8.5 (I have an 8.5 install CD I purchased in the '90s) but I can't find the Installer CD, so I was...

    FWB Software under "New Management"

What I'm saying is that if Microsoft is holding development on these apps just because it now owns the (most likely) #1 PC Emulation app, its not right. I've tried Bochs and such, but they don't have the stability that Connectix put into VPC. In OS 9 I used RealPC because it was faster on my...

    FWB Software under "New Management"

They didn't say it wasn't possible, but they just said the previous management made some exagerated promises. With MS now running the Windows emulation market (owning both Windows and VPC), we are left with just VPC and a couple, less stable OpenSource alternatives. That's just wrong.

FWB Software has changed management, and several products we were "promised" have changed status. Primarily: Read the full story @ FWB Software

    Problems with Kung-Tunes... Anyone else?

After installing 7B28, Kung-Tunes refuses to open. It hangs for a bit, then says AppleScript error -2706. Is this just a problem with me, or does anyone else have this issue?

    The Panther 7B28 Thread

Another iTunes bug squashed: in the iTMS, clicking along the "path" buttons (Home > Classical > Yo-Yo Ma for example) used to crash the app. No more!
