    Bluefish - anyone uses it?

Unless you are using the /sw folder for an app that you somehow installed previously via fink/fink commander, it would be ok to delete it, as it contains only fink-installed stuff. There's no harm in getting rid of it from what I have read. Then you could install fink/commander and go by the...

Giaguara, do you have fink commander? It can get and install all the stuff you need from source.

    Bluefish - anyone uses it?

I installed bluefish from the fink commander... Just selected it and told it to install from binary... It was quick & easy, but after installing, I found a lot of difficulty in editing files because of the line-breaks weren't translated (hence everythihng was run together) and I couldn't figure...

    whats up with the GIMP???

If you have installed a .mpkg of GIMP (such as the darwinports one from opendarwin.org) and a fink install of gimp, and you want to get rid of the .mpkg, here is a link to an application called OSXPM that will remove installed pkg's. Ironically, this little app is also a mpkg...and it installs...

Where is a good start for me?

I've been coding with javascript, actionscript(flash), php, and a little applescript for a long time now, but I would love to make some simple standalone stuff - like for text-transformations, or scripted terminal actions (if that can be done) I'm initially attracted to the idea of...

Any way to make xterm NOT open when opening X11?

BoneFill just explained the easy way, but it will overwrite the original xinitrc file, instead of making another file to go by. For that reason, incase you want to revert back someday, put a # in front of 'xterm &' to comment it out instead of deleting it, then on the next line you can add...

Any way to make xterm NOT open when opening X11?

PS: a file that starts with '.' will be invisible, and some editors may give you flak. I use TinkerTool to enable invisible files so I dont get lost.

Any way to make xterm NOT open when opening X11?

Here's a quote from the unofficial FAQ http://www.misplaced.net/fom/X11/39.html The .xinitrc file needs to go in the base of your home directory. Use your favorite text editor to create and edit this file, a simple .xinitrc is as follows...

    whats up with the GIMP???

Well, I've been happily twiddling with my new fink install of GIMP and I've got it tweaked a little and cleaned up alot, but I cant help but notice the half a gig of usr/ on my drive from an install of the openDarwin install I tried. There is another running version of GIMP in my usr/ file...

    Creating a VCD

You're right, at least for the U.S. VCD's ARE dodgy. In Eastern Europe and Asia, however, VCD Players have been around for a long, long time, and most DVD players there will play VCD's too. Its a format that never caught on in the U.S...we're still holding on to the expensive low quality VHS...

    shuttin down...waiting, waiting...

Im noticing that some times my mac takes a longer time to shut down (longer than it does to start up by far). Does this have something to do with X11? Is there some huge log file somewhere that is causing this?
