    OS X Color Profile Resetting

I get the color resetting happen if I switch users a lot. What I did to fix it was to get the color profile I had set up and copy it from that user's Profiles folder (~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays) and copy it to /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays. Then went back into the Display...

Oh yeah, it would be nice if SVG was supported.

The page uses Javascript to show the content - and there are a lot of JS errors popping up with theirs.

    BOOT Issue

I think you have to set that in Open Firmware; however I haven't done any dual booting with yaboot in a long time. I'm not sure of the way it's done anymore.

I can't get out of console and to the login window!

OS X doesn't have run levels like Linux. Well, technically it does, but there's not a way to set them. Auspex, I'm still not sure what you mean - there was an admin logged in, so you went and created a new admin user? What name did you give this new user? And is this your computer? Just...

    Can't boot to the desktop

Hmm, kernel panic (The dialog stating you need to restart your computer). Yes, there actually is - if you can get it to start booting off of your startup disk. It's not too difficult after that. You'll need to hold down option to select to boot from your startup disk. As soon as you hit...

    Unix Tar - built-in?

Well, what do you know, you are right, Racer. In my defense, though, the Developer Tools also installs a version of tar - not sure if it's the same version that's installed with the Base System or a newer one. However, gzip is part of the BSD install, not the base install - and some people...

    How does application installation work

Because the applications are really packages. They're self contained, for the most part. That way, you only have to install one thing instead of a bunch of things for the app to work.

    Unix Tar - built-in?

Looks like zip is installed with the BSD stuff. BTW, you can look for these in the terminal if you want to - I found tar and zip using these commands: lsbom -s /Library/Receipts/DeveloperTools.pkg/Contents/Archive.bom | grep -w "tar" lsbom -s /Library/Receipts/BSD.pkg/Contents/Archive.bom...

I can't get out of console and to the login window!

What do you mean, exactly, when you say "I added my own admin user through admin itself while it was logged in" ? I'm not quite sure what you did there. Also, does it immediately go there, or does it show the blue screen with stuff loading first, then dump you there? In other words, when...

    BOOT Issue

Looks like it's trying to find a NetBoot volume to boot from. Tell your friend to open up System Preferences on the powerbook, select Startup Disk, and select the boot volume. Should fix it.

    Donation Drive

Heh, good turn around, grep. ;) Scott, I don't usually pipe up in these sorts of conversations, but I'll say that I understood it all and didn't find it too annoying. There's no way not to find something like that somewhat annoying, as you yourself already said, but it wasn't something that...

installing the "2nd" OSX cd... later?

Most likely. Many of the maintenence stuff you come across relies on the BSD stuff to have been installed.
