Are your disk the retail Apple disks or the gray disks that come with another computer?
I have never seen such an error. What exactly did you do with the cd?
I found this topic discussing basically the same problem. Do you think that if I put in the new drive, then reset the computer it will work? I'm thinking about trying it if there is a good chance it will work (besides I have nothing better to do tonight :p).
If the Logic Board is dead, then either the computer won't turn on period or the screen won't turn on. If the screen just won't turn on, then the O.P. could use Target Disk Mode, but he still wouldn't see the Firewire icon.
P.S. See here
Click on the drive in Disk Utility, click "Erase", then select from the menu Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Click the "Erase" button and you should be able to install.
I would say both linux and Mac OS are quite superior to Windows. Yes Windows has the most software (and viruses) and all you need is Wine to fix that for both linux and Mac OS.
I agree that Ubuntu is easy to use but compared to Snow Leo  You can't get better security or ease of use...
No, you could not trade it, but you might be able to sell it. EBay perhaps. Is your laptop worth $1000 dollars used? Maybe, but you must remember that Apple is a premium product and similar spec computers will be worth more if they are Macs.
Don't you have problems with the limited amount of data that Wifi can provide? I know with my Wifi router, if I was downloading a linux iso over wifi, my other wifi connected devices would suffer greatly.
I had to do a similar thing with my DSL modem and all you have to do is take an ethernet cable and plug your computer directly into the modem. Then, I think, you should have web access (on the modem).
Yes, you should. Click on the Apple icon in the upper-left hand corner and click "Software Update". It should then update your computer, reboot it, and then you can use Safari 4.
I wish the new mouse would work with Windows. If you are running Boot Camp and got a new mouse, how are you supposed to use it???
I wish it would work with Tiger as well. :(
I agree. I don't worry about my Macs because if someone tried to get in, they would have to have a Mac (I only use Apple File Sharing) and Macs aren't exactly a hackers best friend. Plus I have a strong password.
I could even leave a PC virus for them :D
