    GUI Suggestions (screenshot)

I like the looks of the bar. Would the bar be of fixed size, or would it change size? I for one prefer the fixed width approach.

Any developers out there? Maybe these idea should be turned into reality, whether Apple wants to act on them or not. Personally, I feel that Apple is thinking more about marketing and less about useability, so the only way to change this is by giving users alternatives and see what they choose...

Can Mac OS X survive without an office suite?

I must admit that I too favour Appleworks, for two reasons: - Cheaper - have you seen the price of MS-Office ? - Acceptable feature list - it does everything I need and doesn't take up more room than the OS ;) Though back to the topic, I wouldn't be surprised if there are some...

    GUI Suggestions (screenshot)

One thing that gets me with MacOS X is the use of the desktop, or rather the lack of it. I quite liked the way that everything you needed was available on the desktop, like the drives and wastebasket. Maybe someone will come up with a patch that will allow this functionality to come back?

    Ease of use

Not having used MacOS X I am wondering how you would rate it for ease of use, especially for someone coming from MacOS 9. Are there any thing that confuse you? Any things that you prefer in previous versions of MacOS, or feel would make you move to another OS? Anwsers to these questions could...

    Run Windows on OS X?

You are probably right about it running on BSD. The website for Bochs is http://www.bochs.com/ . Anyone who is daring enough and knows anything about software development might want to try getting it working on MacOS X. If anyone does get it working there are a whole bunch of people who would...

    UNIX Comands

The truth is you shouldn't really need to use the command prompt for most things. The fact that I see a lot of people heading to the command prompt is either an indication that there are lot of people who want to become power users or that the OS is missing some crucial GUI based tools to do the...

    Hiding Dock?

Can someone tell me whether it is possible to hide the dock in the same way as the task bar is hideable under Windows 9X - basically it stays hidden until you move your mouse to the bottom of the screen. What would also be nice is the ability to move the task bar's location - having used...

    Run Windows on OS X?

There is a project you might be interested in at: http://members.nbci.com/macbochs/. I should warn you that this is designed for the pre-X MacOS and the installation process might not be as user-friendly as some of the commerical solutions. It is open-source so the source-code is available and...

    Java programming apps

I don't have access to MacOS X, so I can only use my Unix experience to help out. When ever I get the error that you indicated on any other platform it is usually because the classpath is wrong, generally missing the current directory (.). Another problem may be that the case of the class is...

    Java programming apps

if MacOS X has the notion of system variables, or if there is a control panel that specifies the java classpath then you should add the period/full-stop '.' to the path. once done java forte_ce_1_0_2 should do the trick.

    Where is the swap file?

Is there any option to make a swap partition? A swap partition certainly offers better performance than a swap file - especially since the OS knows that there is reduced risk of fragmentation.

OS X Pub Beta-How To turn Off/Remove Debug Code

You can't it the debugging code is inserted at compile time and the only way to remove it is by recompiling the system. Since you don't have access to the source code this is not an option. You are going to have to wait for the final release for a fully optimized version - this why this is known...
