    Terminal Startup Script

Does anybody out there know how to create a startup script for the terminal? (found in the preferences window) Basically my problem is that I run the distributed.net client, and it runs in the CLI. Everytime I startup my computer i have to type in the path of the program to run it. It is just a...

    AppleTalk Zones

I would like to know this same thing. I know that OS X shows up in the "Local Services" in the Network browsers, but it would be nice to have zones. When I leave my zone, my computer no longer shows up under local. It is not accessible through the Network browser. Essentially, my computer is...

    NextStep, Rhapsody & Copland

A long time ago, well, maybe only a year or two, I saw it on a Hotline server. I downloaded it to see what it was like, and it wasn't worth my time downloading. I'm not sure if that copy was legit, or a fake, but it wasn't that great. It was a lot like OS 9, but it didn't run too well. It...

    Sstem Disk Shortcut

Everyone says "Hold the option key on startup and you will startup in OS 9." For some odd reason, it doesn't work. On either of my macs. Now, maybe I'm smoking crack or somethign and can't fully understand the sentence "hold down the option key on startup" or it just doesn't work. Could someone...

    Is the internet going slower?

I found that when using OS X programs... Expecially macster that downloads in OS X are a LOT faster than OS 9. I have an Ethernet connection to University network. I've seen speeds increase from around 100k/s up to 200-300k/s. [Edited by mtc7501 on 11-06-2000 at 01:17 PM]

    macosx.com on Linux !.....yehaww

SOme of you should read other posts. Espiecially in the site news, etc... This site runs on mySQL, which (according to the post) does not yet currently run on X pb. Also, the post says how he would like people to help port mySQL so that X pb users can have the power that linux and other...

When is the next OSX update?

Apple has too much to lose with OS X. It would only be damage to them to not supply some updates for OS X. I don't think they will be a lot of major stuff. I would suspect bug fixes, and a couple things that finally have hardware acceleration on, and possibly a couple new features. I wouldn't...

    Stuck At 640x480

Yes, I am using the Internal Video. I have an Apple Monitor (for a BW G3). It has the VGA connector, and has to connect through the adapter tha came with it. I don't see why an Apple monitor wouldn't work with the internal video.

Wow memory shows with OS X

256mb ram, and more! that's incredibly ridiculous. I'm too cheap to go buy more ram, so I'm using 64mb in one computer with OS X... It is slow as... well.... my friends windows machine.... the difference between a same speed comp with 128mb ram is phenomenal. I just wish i could afford more ram...

    Stuck At 640x480

I can't change my monitor out of 640x480. It is annoying because some things in X require a larger screen. I am using a PowerMac 7500 with a G3 upgrade card. Is it because my machine is not supported and doesn't have the appropriate drivers for my graphics chips? If so, does anyone have drivers...

    Can't Install OS X, Suggestions?

I'm trying to install OS X on my Powermac 7500. I know it's an unsupported install, but I'm still trying. I have had previous versions of OS X running before. My problem is that lately I changed my CD drive to a CD-RW. This causes the OS X cd to not boot. I have no other SCSI cd-rom drives to...

    Distributed.net Client

Does anybody have the Distributed.net client working on OS X yet? It runs fine in classic, but I want a version that is native for OS X. I try downloading the one that is supposed to be for DP4, but it doesn't work. I untar the archive, but it doesn't show up as an application. Anybody have any...

    AOL with OS X?

I am a beta tester for AOL... and the newest installer for an updated version of AOL 5 will not install on OS X if you choose a modem dialup. However if you use TCP/IP for a LAN connection or something then you can use AOL. THere is currently no plan (at least they haven't told the beta testers)...

    Kerberos on OS X

Does anyone know how to get kerberos to work under OS X. My university e-mail requires kerberos to get and send email. It would be really great if I could stop using Classic for kerberos. Right now i'm using Sidecar in OS 9.

Can I Download MacOS X for Free?

I don't think it's bad that we have to pay for the beta. The money that we put into buying it will help pay for more development and engineering. I hear a lot of people saying all sorts of things need work and that there should be more engineers. The point is that people want something done, but...

File Sharing Between 9.0.4 and X

As everyone has probably figured out by now, computers with OS 9 can access OS X file sharing. That's easy to set up. I had a problem that i couldn't use my server while using X. I read the FAQ's and all, and set up Appleshare IP, and now, my X can access my file server. Tip just in case...
