    Suggestions for MP3 laptop?

An iPod, even if (when) they release a 20 GB version, wouldn't be large enough; I'd like to get something that could carry all of my music and then some.

    Suggestions for MP3 laptop?

I've been looking at all of the MP3 players out there (iPod, JukeBox, Riot), but I've also been thinking of alternatives. The one that's been sticking in my mind recently is getting a used Apple laptop, slapping in a 40 GB hard drive, somehow putting in a Firewire port, and playing my MP3's from...

    Batch CD encoding

FaRuvius: The Tunboks Kivor looks really cool; however, I couldn't find out the amount of serious moneys needed to buy one on the website. Scruffy: That seems to be a better idea; I've been looking at buying an 80GB external Firewire drive anyway. Now I have a new, better reason. ;)

    Universal to copyprotect all CDs

Speaking of line recording, does anyone know of a good freeware app for doing so, using an audio-in port on an iMac? Nothing fancy, just straight recording. I'd like to convert my parent's old (in a classic way) vinyl and tape collection to CD, for storage purposes only. No piracy here, nuh uh...

    Universal to copyprotect all CDs

Somehow, the encryption method used on the CDs baffles the way the CD drivers on Macs, and older portable CD players, read the CDs... The drivers for Windows computers most of the time can deal with it.

    Universal to copyprotect all CDs

I also remember reading about how most stores carrying the copy-protected CDs will accept a refund, even if the case of the copy-protected CD is opened. I fail to believe that Universal will not offer any CDs that are not copy-protected, as it was also said that the CDs will not work on some...

    Batch CD encoding

Due to circumstances agonizingly out of my control, I have to re-encode my collection of CDs that is about 130 CDs large. I know that I could just sit in front of my computer and pop in a CD, wait for it to encode, and then replace it with another one, etc. Does anyone know of any scripts...

    iTunes encoding quality

Speaking of encoding a CD collection, does anyone have a good method for smoothly ripping a collection of about 130 CD's? I would like to encode my collection, but would like to also limit the amount of time I spend sitting and waiting in front of my computer. I've heard of 200 CD and 400 CD...

    iTunes Conversion Speed

Well... With a 600mHz iMac w/ 256 MB of RAM, I can get up to 6-7x, but most of the time it hovers around 4-5x. This is at 128 kbps CBR. Question, tho: For those who use LAME, is it noticeably faster than iTunes? I've been thinking of switching permanently, but I haven't had much of a...
