    Que Fire 24/10/40 under 10.1

Odd problem indeed. I have a QUE 24x10x40 internal drive mounted in an ADS firewire enclosure, and it works great. Sorry I can't be of more help.

    If this is true....

Hmmm....interesting concept. 128 Mb of memory? That's HUGE. Speaking of huge, what's with that hinge? I don't think Apple would stray so far from the well established form factor of Palms and PocketPCs. Plus, we'd be running in to the whole problem of Apple vs the rest of the industry...

    10.1 DVD player

Might help if you told us what movie is giving you the problems. It could turn out to be a problem with the way the movie was mastered on the disc, or it could just be a problem with your disc.

routers with built in print servers

Anyone have any luck printing to Epson printers from 10.1 through a router with a built in print server? Are we going to have to wait for official drivers from epson?

    VERY simple C question

thanks for the help guys! Glad to know there's not a whole lot I can do about it at my current knowledge level. I'll just keep plugging away at the problems in my book to learn the basics. In a few months I should be at the point where simple things like this aren't a problem for me any more.

    VERY simple C question

I'm working my way through my college programming in C book as a first step to learning Cocoa. Anyway, I'm stuck playing on a Windows computer at work, and I'm still early in the process so I'm mostly writing command line programs in DOS. Anyway, I'm writing a very simple program but for some...

    setting up FTP server???

The easiest method would be to go in to your user preferences in the system preferences and set up a new user with a name like "guest". Set up a password for that user and then make sure you don't give them administrator priviledges. Then when the FTP in to your machine, the only files...

Apple DVD Player 3.0 rejects PCI G4's

Lombards are the 1999 "Bronze keyboard" model of powerbook. First powerbooks with USB and last ones with SCSI.

Apple DVD Player 3.0 rejects PCI G4's

Don't forget the lack of OpenGL on our Lombards. Heck, support for our Rage PRO video cards (even in 2D) is marginal at best. I have heard a rumor of the updated freeware drivers for wireless PC cards being available. Not sure about this though.

remaining reasons for forcing us back into OS 9?

I have to boot in to 9 avery time I want to watch a friggin' DVD. Stupid Apple, not supporting hardware based DVD decoding. Hopefully one of the forthcoming updates will fix me up. Once that's done, I'm just waiting for OSX versions of Canon's scanner driver, Office for OSX, and a chance to...

    iMovie to VCD?

Supposedly Toast 5 will burn a VCD using a quicktime file. This functionality isn't supported in the OSX version of Toast 5 yet, so you'll have to go back to OS 9 to do it.

    default Sleep

Don't worry about it. When the dialog box pops up, just hit the 'S' key. That'll put it to sleep.

    Office v.X

Well, unfortunately they're only releasing a feature limited version of Word, not the full office suite. Plus you need 10.1 to run it. Nonetheless, I'll be downloading the Word trial on Saturday just as soon as I install the 10.1 update.

Is it just me or....(10.1 DVD)

ATI Rage 128 or later ATI cards and all supported Nvidia cards are required for software DVD playback, so those of us with lowly Rage Pro cards are SOL. It sucks too. I think it's time to start sending feedback to Apple saying we want our DVD hardware decoders to be supported.

Is it just me or....(10.1 DVD)

I hear ya brother! I'm running a 333 Lombard with BTO DVD hardware. I can't imagine that it would be all that difficult to add hardware decoding functionality to the DVD player. Maybe it's something Apple's working on, but didn't make the cut (kinda like full support for our Rage Pro video...

    CD Burner Problem

From the sounds of it, you're plugging in your burner while your computer is up and running. If this is the case, what you're doing is known as hot-plugging it, which SCSI doesn't really support. It may have worked before in OS9, but OSX is probably less tolerant of this, plus you can cause...

    CD Burner Problem

What kind of interface does the burner have? Firewire, external SCSI, internal SCSI, internal IDE??

    Hardware based DVD playback

I'm running a Lombard powerbook which from the sounds of it will unfortunately be losing it's ability to play back DVD video. Rumor has it that the DVD player in 10.1 only supports software decoding (which in turn requirs an ATI 128 or later video card). Since the Lombard has a Rage Pro, it...

FireWire2Go PCMCIA Card & Lombard Support?

Well, I'm not absolutely positive about SCSI support when it comes to the Lombards. I know the OSX beta didn't support the SCSI port on the Lombard, but haven't heard anything about the final versions. I know SCSI was there in the beta for a lot of other machines, so I'd assume the Lombard...

FireWire2Go PCMCIA Card & Lombard Support?

OK, let me try to answer your questions in order here. The card works without any 3rd party drivers. Plug it in and OSX sees it as a native firewire bus, almost. Before I got my hands on a FireWire burner, I wasn't sure if the card would work or not. OSX gave no indication it even knew the...
