    OpenGL Keeps Freezing

I'm pretty sure that OpenGL is just a 3D engine. It wouldn't affect an MPEG move, as far as I know.

    is mathematica cocoa?

Another way to figure out if an application is Cocoa/Carbon is to press the mouse down on a scroll arrow, and still holding it, drag the mouse over the other arrow. If the other arrow highlights and it starts scrolling in that direction, it's a Cocoa app. Otherwise, Carbon!

Browsers Poll (More browsers to Choose)

While I hate Netscape, the Gecko engine is a great one. My main browser is Chimera 0.2.7. Tabbed browsing, lightning-fast rendering, all using that nice OS X antialiasing, and it's standards-compliant, unlike OW. Now all we need are functional downloading and an improvement on text input...

    800/933 Performance Difference

Hello, I'm soon going to buy a new G4. I am going to buy either to 800 or the 933. I am going to put a GF3 in which ever I buy. I'm wondering: how much more game performance does the 933 have over to 800? Is it worth the extra $400? - Chris

Apple to incoporate shareware into 10.2?

Hello, I think a great thing to implement is this: Clicking the minimize widget minimizes the window into the dock, but double-clicking the title bar will windowshade the window. The best of both worlds, without compromizing either! Just my 2¢

    How does one use SSH?

Well, I figured out how to connect. Since BendCable.com doesn't work, I just tried to use direct connect to the computer using its IP address, and it works great.

    How does one use SSH?

I tried to do that, but every time I try it prints "Connection Refused." I assume that username@hostname is basically their email address? So, for someone to connect to me, it would be cfournier@bendcable.com. Right?

    How does one use SSH?

Hello, I would like to learn how to use SSH to login to a separate computer. I've figured out how to create a passphrase using ssh-keygen (using the RSA1 format), but beyond that I'm stumped. Please help me get this working! Chris

    OpenGL Keeps Freezing

The only apps that I have problems with are OpenGL-based. Yet another problem I have is the CD drive not spinning up when a game needs it to, resulting in a frozen computer, sitting there waiting for the CD to spin up. This happens in StarCraft and Heroes III. I've found a fix for the...

    OpenGL Keeps Freezing

I don't own either game. I'm below the system requirements for EVO 2, and I think I need the retain version of Alice to play it in OS X. Giants Demo is not a beta. It freezes at the first rendered scene.

    OpenGL Keeps Freezing

Hello, OpenGL on my little iMac is horribly unstable. Every OpenGL-based game (UT Preview, RtCW, 3DOSX, etc.) freezes after a few minutes or maybe even seconds after launch. One time, UT froze during the CityIntro. Another time, it ran perfectly. 3DOSX totally crashes the computer every...

    XP or X???

Well, you don't have to pay for it... just use the unregistered version of DropStuff.

    XP or X???

This is possible. Just get Stuffit Deluxe. Using the Magic Menu, you can do this exact thing just as easily. As for other "Open As..." things, wait a few months for 10.2, and you'll be able to right click, and choose which application you want to open the application with (at least we...

    can YOU live without Microsoft?

I can almost live w/o Microsoft. The only MS products I use are Outlook Express in OS 9 (never use OS 9, though) and Entourage for Mac OS X. Soon as I learn of a nice OS X mail program for OS X that has every thing I need and looks good, I'll abandon MS.

    Are you a gamer?

I am a gamer. I am really into Starcraft right now, but I also play a lot of UT and Deus Ex. I'd like to try some somewhat recent games (Black and White, specifically), so I'm getting a nice $2,000 G4 this summer :D

HIGHLY CONTROVERSIAL: Things that I miss from Windows

It seems that you no longer need to press Command-Shift-Tab to switch to the previous app. On my computer at least, Command-Tab switches to the next application, and Command-Shift (no tab) switches to the previous.

HIGHLY CONTROVERSIAL: Things that I miss from Windows

This in not true. When you double-click on a folder on the desktop, you are opening Internet Explorer. There is no folder list on the left side like Windows Explorer, and to the best of my knowledge, there is no way to make it visible. Try this: make a opened folder look just like a Windows...

    iMac or Used G4 Tower?

I'm thinking that I'll be getting a G4 tower. For one, it will have a much longer lifetime. The graphics card can be replaced w/ a faster one when the current one become underpowered. The capacity for more RAM is larger, plus it uses cheaper RAM than the iMac. The screen can be any size I...

    iMac or Used G4 Tower?

Hello, In a few months, I'm thinking of getting a new iMac. I could get a new iMac, or instead I could get a used G4 (maybe a 733, or something). I would really like to have some great game performance so the computer will still run games in two years or so. Would it be worth it (would the...
