    Future of Apple With x86

Apple's software is certainly amazing, and there is a reason for that, control over the hardware. The Apple OS and software work so well with the hardware because Apple knows exactly what is going into each machine and thus can know exactly how new software will interact with the hardware...

    Apple Scores High on Support

Tech support with Apple is good. I've only called twice. Once, back 5 years ago when I was having a printer problem. Turned out it was an Epson problem but the guy was nice enough at Apple. More recently, my iPod decided to die (it may, I repeat may, have been harmed by a slight fall onto...

    Your iPod Name

My desktop computer is Homer after Homer Simpson (I once had Homer, Marge, and Maggie for my three HD partitions until I went back to just one partition) My iBook is named aXel because I lived in Sweden for a year and I love that name, but also because when I was bored one night while...

maybe we are are asking too much!!!

Scarecrow, I just wonder what the cut-off is for charing/not charging? Nobody that was willing to wait really had to pay for the upgrade from 10 to 10.1. You could drive to a store and pick up a copy of the upgrade for free. That's what I did. So there, those that bought 10.0 got 10.1 for...

    Installing Mac OS X 10.2 6C98.

Is the Jaguar installer really 2 CD's. Now as I state in my subject, I don't know, but isn't WinXP all on one CD? I would hope not, as that would certainly take away one of my favorite gripes with Microsucks, bloatware. I loved the fact that at my former work I could literally put a base...

    Overall Reaction to MacWorld

I appears I may have jumped the gun this morning as far as getting my panties in a bunch over no more .mac e-mail. Seems there may be a compromise in the works where I keep my address without paying. If that is the case, than this Expo was not bad at all. A lot of really neat technology got...

    .Mac rip off - Feedback

From what I'm reading at http://www.mac.com/1/mac_faq.html it's pay or be kicked.

    .Mac rip off - Feedback

I'm all for the free market and charging for things, after all Apple is a profit centered business. It just gets my goat that they are going to charge me $50 so that I can continue to use my mac.com e-mail address. Make the limit 5 MB storage and give it to me for free. Contrary to what Steve...

RealOne for OSX (Beta) Released! FINALLY!!!

This software may be from Real, but I already like it better than Media Player and now I can finally listen to everything BBC, whether it's the news or Radio1 with it's Essential Mixes. Perhaps I should move to England (or any other part of the island) and then I wouldn't have to use the...

    No Keynote on TechTV

The xserve thing is bang on. Apple wants to show the power that these boxes can deliver. To that end, they want to drastically increase the number of people that have to access the speech via the web. Either that or Steve Jobs thinks he is now king of the world and he doesn't need to worry...

    Using OS 9 or X?

My desktop is OSX, but I keep my iBook at 9.2 in case I have the urge to play Tropico. It's just too slow in OSX even on my G4. Someone, Apple, Pop-Top, ATI, I don't know should see if they can fix that problem.

Microsoft tries to steal Macworld thunder

Once, when I was gainfully employed, I did give a rather large part of my pay check to many people that felt they were entitled to it: the government and all the special interests they try to support using my money. Well, they aren't taking any money from me now, I haven't a job, although I'm...

    Update to Aqua - Apple.com!

I haven't used any Jaguar builds, but if the new Aqua interface is just a "toned down" version of what I'm running now is that just a cheap and easy way of making everything run faster and the marketing guys rather than calling it a downgrade decided to call it Quartz Extreme. Just a thought ;)

Isn't it time to really promote OS X?

Cult is a word with such negative connotations. We Mac users are an enlightened few. A select bunch. The elite. A cult? No, if we were a cult we would all bow down and pray to Steve Jobs 5 times a day. Currently, I only pray to Steve Jobs three times a day.

    I find it funny...

I noticed the same thing. Since when does CNET talk with such authority about what will be coming from the next Macworld? My guess, Apple is doing something funny here, in a good way. Telling everyone and their mom about a 17" flat panel iMac (great, do I get a free upgrade for my 533 mHZ G4...

    Trash

It appears that many things may cause this problem but from the thread mentioned above, I took the advice of making all files visible after rebooting in OS9. I removed .Trash file from my user, restarted in OSX and boomya!!! Of course, you may have already realized this and now I'm just...

    Trash

EMW - I am having the same problem as you are, exactly. I haven't found a gui solution but this one works if you aren't afraid of the terminal. If anyone else knows a real solution to fix the problem forever, please let us both know. Anyway, Trash thread and the actual instructions...

    setting up anonymous ftp

As I only really need people to have access to the music I place in the public folder, is there a way that I could put files in the Public folder of the ftp user's account and then when people go to ftp://johndigweed.kicks-ass.net they would only see the public folder and nothing else clutering...

    setting up anonymous ftp

I'm trying to setup an ftp server, and I want to serve the contents of this folder "/localhost/Users/sam/Music/MP3's/John Digweed/Kiss" However, after following the above instructions in step one by typing this: [syr-24-169-80-4:~] sam% sudo niuti -create . /users/ftp home...

    sharing files over web

Could someone please tell me the proper syntax for an anchor tag (if this is actually possible) in the following situation: I'm serving up a site at the address http://johndigweed.kicks-ass.net/Digweed%20Site/downloads.htm which is hosted on my desktop from which I type right now...
