    My Dilemma

But you don't need a brand new one. I'm with the others here in that a nice used dual G4/500 should suffice. :) I have an HP CD Writer 9500 that works fine in an ADS Firewire case. It works with the Finder and Toast, though not iTunes yet. The Western Digital will be A-OK in the G4 tower...

    It's HERE: iPod

There will be a market for this product. No other MP3 player does half of what this one does as far as integration with the Mac and certainly none of them are Firewire nor can they *act as a hard drive*. The product has it's place. Just not in my pocket. $299 maybe. $199, I would have ordered...

    Mac Retorts

"With a comment like that, I'd be willing to bet you've never even used a Mac." If they then say, "Yes I have." Then probe to find out when it was. Most PC users I've run in to have actually used a Mac, but it was back in 1995 or somesuch. I've been using Macs since 1987 and 1995 was not a...

    A good multibutton mouse for X ?

I wanted a small mouse that was light as well. A friend had (he has since sold and purchased a Ti/500) a Sony VAIO super slim with the Sony (Windows 98/Sony VAIO ONLY according to the box) mini mouse. One day, I decided to just plug it in and guess what? I'm using it right now. All 3...

    Windowshade available in X

by your own admission, but it just consumes too much processor and doesn't support long file names (which I too dislike). For what it's worth, my iTunes doesnt go over 10% unless I'm ripping. In that case I certainly understand.

best alternative while we wait for photoshop

the site for this proggy is ugly and the interface isn't the most intuitive, but it does a lot of what photoshop does including layers and so on. htt://www.pl32.com/ 30 day trial (guiltware) and it costs $69. I use it :)

What do you miss least about Mac OS 9?

One thing I miss: this is kind of nit-picky but I miss the depth/detail of the contextual menus in OS 9. One thing I don't miss: a single app bringing the house down.

    OSX (Darwin) PHP/pear problem FIXED.

I just wanted to let you know that I have successfully built Apache 1.3.17 and PHP 4.04pl1 as a DSO on Mac OS X Public Beta 1H39 (AKA Darwin). The problem was that the configure script for PHP was trying to create a file in the ./pear directory named 'pear' where a directory named 'PEAR'...
