    10.3.4: iChat problem

Normally I'd probably just do something like that, but on an iBook, keeping your CPU at max constantly is a good way to kill battery life. Heh. And yeah, Safari is kind of weird too. Sometimes I just copy links and use wget, because downloading a file should not require that much CPU power...

    10.3.4: iChat problem

Alrighty, that answers a few questions. Thanks for the link. I think I've narrowed it down to a certain user's buddy icon of all things. I would be fine until I started chatting with him, and then CPU usage would jump to 100% until I quit iChat. Weird.

    10.3.4: iChat problem

I just installed the 10.3.4 update this morning, and now iChat uses maximum CPU time when running. Anyone else notice this? And did you find a solution? I suppose I could just get an older version of iChat or something. Time to send the ol' bug report to Apple...

    EyeToy camera

Anybody gotten the PS2 EyeToy camera to function with OS X? I have a feeling I'll need to install a proper driver, but I'm not sure if it's just a repackaged OEM version of another camera, and if so, which one.

    C# on 10.3

Yeah, I think I've gotten all the answers I'll need. Carry on with the miscellanea. Heh.

    C# on 10.3

Awesome. I'm downloading the OS X package right now, and I'll play with it later. Thanks for the link. I'm surprised I hadn't seen that before.

    C# on 10.3

I wouldn't. The CS professor probably wouldn't mind, though. ;-)

    C# on 10.3

Well, Microsoft actually makes rotor, which is a command line implementation of the language basics. And there's the mono project, which is some kind of open source variation of .NET. But like I said, I've never gotten either to build. Argh.

    C# on 10.3

I tried searching for this, but the board has a 3 character minimum for search terms. Blah. What are my options for running C# programs? I tried building mono and rotor, but neither of them compiled correctly as packaged.

How do I setup UseNet groups

Well, I could go get a lot of things for free, but that doesn't make them good. ;-) It looks like the author is discontinuing public releases of Halime, though. It's a shame, because it's got potential.

How do I setup UseNet groups

I would recommend it, if it didn't create group files over 20 MB and crash a lot. I can't find any good usenet software for OS X, really. MT Newswatcher X - Disavows all knowledge of articles already read Entourage - Pathetic threading display options, weak binary support Is there...

Problems using Stuffit with a split RAR

Well, once you get the hang of basic command line use, it shouldn't be a problem. They're fairly straight forward programs.

Problems using Stuffit with a split RAR

I'm not sure why exactly, but it's a metaphysical certainty that any program without "rar" in the name will suck for handling rar files. Here's what I suggest: http://www.rarlabs.com Download the command line rar utilities for OS X. They work quite nicely.

    Entourage spam with "no subject"

Hmm... Can you do something like this? subject does not contain "a" and subject does not contain "e" and subject does not contain "i" and subject does not contain "o" and subject does not contain "u" Yeah, it's ugly, but it might work.

    IRC Client

Hmm, all I can remember off the top of my head is that the GTK version has somewhat better behavior for the separator bar. They both kick ass, though.

    IRC Client

XChat > * XChat Aqua is pretty decent. It's lacking a couple features, but it has nice multilingual support, thanks to being Cocoa based.

    AAC Protection Cracked?

Hmm, the old method was to burn a CD full of your DRM audio files. Then you could just rip them to mp3 in whatever bit rate you wanted. Is this new conversion method any different/better?

    Comcast Faster!

Status: Test completed... Bandwidth = 4662.9 Kbps :O~~~ I love university leased lines. He he. Next time I'm at home, I'll have to check the cable modem and see if ours is running any faster.

    weird iChat problem

Ah, yes, that would be a rather nasty sticking point. I have a feeling that Classic compatibility probably won't get better over time.

    weird iChat problem

Don't panic! Open up the Console utility, and see if anything is reported when you launch iChat. It's entirely possible that you'll see what's causing the problem.
