    Carbon Sound Manager???

Your internal speaker sounds better than your Sound Sticks? Very odd. I've got ProSpeakers and an iSub and they sound as good as ever.

    Classic In Mac OS X

They still do OS 9 as part of their fullfillment program, but you have to pay for it seprately. Not a lot tho.

Revenge on the King of Spam

...and he's reaping a whole lotta junk. Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy. It is good to know that there are people out there working for our best interests, but the internet and all the crap that comes with it are a very sad reflection on us as a species. Well, i'm off to redeem my...

Safe to install OS9 after X on the same partition?

Wouldn't recommend too much partitioning of your drives. Have only partitioned my PowerBook drive because of the dodgy OSX 8Gb rule on them. If you need separate spaces, you'd be better off getting extra drives. Partitions are not the most efficient way to run your computer and they always end...

    Carbon Sound Manager???

Are you supposed to try and suss out what these things do when they pop up in the list?! I always just click Install! If Apple think I need it, that's good enough for me. And nothings gone wrong. Yet. :)

    Apple Snowflake Screensaver

Runs fine on my G4 but killed my G3. It was running at 1-2fps! Surely it cant be that difficult to animate?! Even with hardly any flakes. Needs an option to have smaller flakes - more delicate. And different flakes would be better too.

Press3 certification for Macintosh (my experience)

Have just done my MacCSE, more out of curiosity than anything else (and because it's reduced price:)), and scraped a pass with 49, 49, 52! Questions were a fair bit harder than I anticipated, which I think can only be a good thing to keep the standard up. Was most confident of Hardware, but got...

    Software Update unexpectedly quits

Sounds like your software update needs a software update... What version do you have and what are you updating to? I remember something similar to this, I think. If you're downloading a number of items, try getting them one at a time, starting with the system updates if possible. It shouldn't...

    OSX doesn't boot

How long are you leaving it? A guy at work phoned me to say his iBook was dead and just doing the spinny disc thing for ages, but after he left it for longer it turned out it was just checking the hard drive which was full of clutter. When you change startup disc, it can think that the computer...

Can Some One Tell Me About Ram and OS X

Yup, thats good. You can use the top command to check for pageouts too. I've had a grand total of zero, but I went way overboard with the RAM. If you're getting any, it's slowing you down!

    Is my PowerBook dying? Again.

Got the funny screen again on shutdown last night. It's nout to do with the SCSI. At least the brightness is working. For now. Was thinking about processor upgrades, but think i'll hold fire. When then's the next update due?!

You have to think maybe there's a reason for that!

    Graphics slow-down

Yeah, sounds like a heat problem. Our admin girl at work always stacks papers up next to her computer covering the vents and when it gets hot things go bad. It's only a shoddy home made PC, but I guess the same principles apply. There's only so much the Cube's convection cooling can deal...

If not Apple laptop then which one?

You can find something in whatever price range youre looking at, but whatever the spec, they're never gonna have the finesse and quality of finish that Apple portables have. Get a machine you're gonna enjoy!

    My Quicksilver won't start up!

Sounds like you need to reset your power management, at least that's what I do on my PowerBook if it does things like that. Not sure exactly how it works on a Quicksilver as I've never done it on mine. Found a knowledgebase article for a Sawtooth G4 so it might be similar...

    mac osx and iomega

SCSI to Firewire could be worth a look! Belkin and ummm, Iomega make them. Specs just say 8.6 or later (Iomega) and 9.0 or later (Belkin). No mention of X. Seems odd that they'd make it impossible, or at least very, very difficult to add SCSI to an OS X iMac after pushing it for so many years.

    Is my PowerBook dying? Again.

Yep, sorted both. At shutdown, the screen just goes black for a second then the power goes off like it's supposed to. Brightness sorted itself out too. I had a feeling it might have been down to using the funny SCSI cable. You got anything connected to yours on SCSI? I'm gonna try plugging it in...

    mac osx and iomega

Is it an Iomega USB->SCSI adapter? If not, you're looking the wrong place. You need to try the vendor's web site, not Iomegas. Browni - you trying to break some record for sig length?! :)

    Is my PowerBook dying? Again.

I think I've sorted it. I started up in OS9 (which required me to move my OS9 system folder onto the same partition as X - just wouldn't use it from the other partition!) and ran disk first aid which said that all seemed fine, then started back in X and the problem had gone. Very strange. I also...
