    Overclock iBook 700 ?

Probably wiser to go for the RAM before you start fiddling with clock speeds. You can't really have too much memory, especially under OS X.

What about your hard drive ?

Struggled with 1.2Gb on the Umax for long enough. Stretching my legs in 40+80 Barracuda bad boys on my G4. Couldn't live with the original 8Gb on my PowerBook either so upped it to 20Gb. Dad seems to be coping with 4.5Gb on the Umax now cos he only checks his email and scans stuff.

    Is my PowerBook dying? Again.

My Powerbook G3/300 (PDQ) has been working fine and dandy until just recently, possibly until installing 10.2.2, but now when its about half way through starting up the screen goes black - still on but with no backlight. Once its started up fully I can just press the brightness buttons and it...

This is taking peripherals too far...

That kitty is the dumbest thing I ever saw. Now, this Hubzilla, where can I get one of those...?

    What's your most treasured bit-o-hardware?

Like BuddaBob I have "my Mac" which is the G4 I do all my work and stuff on, but love my PDQ PowerBook - rescued from someone with NO idea what he was doing, it was battered and near death, but it's been revitalised, upgraded and customised with a rather fetching platinum paint job. I don't do...

    osX on a imac 333mhz?

I guess I might have inadvertently implied it. Okay, get a 40Gb and throw your 6Gb away. Better?! :)

Apple sightings on TV and movies?

In the BBC1 (UK) sitcom My Family, the dad brought home an indigo iMac this week to which ungrateful geeky son says "the G3 is already outdated". Dad counters with "But it's blue" and clearly misinformed son replies, "I wanted a green one". A slower one, then?! Looked quite spangly anyway and...

    iApp Improvements?

iChat Should be able to access other networks like Fire can, especially MSN Messenger. MSN is awful and keeps going down, but I don't know anyone who uses AIM. iCal The dock icon should always reflect the current date, even when it hasn't been run - like a sencondary calendar in the dock...

OS X version of Disk Wizard, FindIt or similar?!

Anyone know of an OS X app that does what Disk Wizard or Iomega's FindIt utilities did in OS9 - for cataloging disks so you can find that elusive file that you know you backup for safe keeping 7 years ago in a sea of CD-Rs?!

Are you a full time OS X user yet?

On my G3 and G4 I only go back for Quark (less so now I have InDesign 2) and if I need to print edge to edge on my Stylus1290. My Umax won't run 10 and our computers at work are rubbish (plus the fact that we use Quark for everything) so we're still on 9.1 and 9.2 respectively. As soon as...

Does jaguar crash more than OSX.1 ?

I had a few panics on 10.1, but so far none on 10.2.1 - i'd have clicked that button. No panics and pretty decent performance on my PBG3/300 which was rescued from near death, so a decent speed G3 that hasn't been dropped quite so frequently should be perky as anything I would have thought!

Cheeta? Jaguar surely!! ;) First one is very nice, but where's her hair going?

Wallstreet - From bad to worse

You tried resetting the power management thingy with shift-fn-ctrl-power? That seems to cure all ills with mine! If you've had it open, check your connections too - dodgy connection on the keyboard can cause all sorts of bizarre effects.

10.2 internet sharing is really flakey...help!

I use internet sharing from my G4 to my other 2 and sometimes it just doesn't work, but if I go into the network prefs of the client and switch it to one of the other options, apply, then switch it back to DHCP, it works again. Only does it occasionally and seemingly at random. I do have the...

    Samba Question

Not sure you can - if you're an admin user, you get everything. Only non-admins only have their home directories. You could lower yourself to non admin if that would solve your problem?!

    10.1 & 8.6 sharing

If you're in the same house, just use Ethernet - upgrade yours to 10.2 first tho - makes networking a lot easier.

Custom Mac's? Automotive Paint, Mushkin RAM, Cold Cathodes?

Used auto paint on top of plastic primer on my PBG3 and it looks sweet. Preparation is the key tho, and don't scrimp on the laquer - it makes a world of difference. AppleFritter.com have some nice stuff and will host mine too when I sort some decent pics of it. Definitely like the idea of...

To fry or not to fry

PCI era hmmm?... What d'you reckon the chances are for a Umax Apus 2160 (Supermac C500) running 10.2? Not hopeful, even with stunning upgrades such as L2 Cache, 4Mb graphics card and 4.5Gb HD! Even if it works, I can see it taking a while to do... well... anything.

    What the...?! Cupertino Sharing?!!?

Just opened my sharing pref panel under 10.2.1 and where it normally says the name of the thing selected with the on/off button and a description, it said "Cupertino Sharing On" and in the description bit said something along the lines of "stuff for you, and me, and timmy". What on earth is...
