    Buying from Apple Store

It's the Apple store in Century City (LA), the nearest one to me. For some reason, they'll give me a discount on hardware but not on software.

    Buying from Apple Store

I have a similar problem. I live in the US (temporarily) but I can't order anything from Apple's site because I have a UK billing address. I have to go to the physical Apple store BUT they can't give me a student discount on software. They suggested I should try online... This is an annoying...

    Really Reliable Powerbook

Can he still put CDs in the drive? It's good to see that not even a car crash can destroy a PowerBook. My Windows laptop broke in my bag whilst carrying it.

Can we load Windows directly on the IntelMac

Yes, one guy's set up a contest whereby someone who can figure out a way to get XP booting on an Intel Mac wins a cash prize (apparently): http://winxponmac.com/The%20Contest.html If someone does find a way, the solution will be posted on that site.

    Notice: iPod Updater (2006-01-10)

Comparatively, it's slower. You probably wouldn't really notice in everyday use though.

    iPod FM remote

I know that stations can transmit the name of the radio station to players. I've seen a couple of players that can receive the name of the song too. It would be great if you could get the title, flag it somehow and then get the song details in ITMS when you sync.

    New intel Macs

I heard someone say today that it's called "Core Duo" which makes you think it has two cores but in actuality it only has one. He said it was a marketing scam. I thought he was getting mixed up between two processors and a single processor with two cores, but he said no. Btw, he was talking...

Will the future software be still working for G5?

Surely Universal Binaries are slower than using something specifically optimised for the Intel Mac?

Will the future software be still working for G5?

bkaron: Rosetta only runs on the Intel Macs and provides backwards compatibility with PPC apps. If you're running a G5, you have nothing to worry about because Universal Binaries can be run on both PPC and Intel machines. Apple has started porting some of its apps to Universal now (iTunes and...

    Notice: iPod Updater (2006-01-10)

Don't iPod Photos come with power adaptors? Mine did. I've now got a 5G Video iPod that came in a tiny box (same price) with no adaptor. I now have to have my computer on in order to charge it, which is annoying, particularly if I'm listening to a song as it will be stopped as soon as I plug it...

    Apple Announces MacBook Pro

Well, they managed to get Linux running on iPods. I think someone's likely to be able to do it, but they may be have to take drastic measures in order to do so.

    Apple Announces MacBook Pro

EFI was invented by Intel and has not yet become a standard (and may not - BTX anyone?). They may not be using Intel motherboards.

    WMV Done Right, by Microsoft!

They want their WMV format to have a large market share which means supporting it on other platforms. It's a lot easier to buy out a small third party plugin and release it for free than it is to build and maintain their own app.

Why no upgrade prices for iWork / iLife 05 to 06?

Adverts would turn a lot of people off. It's not the image that they associate with Apple.

    What about the ibook

They said they should have their Pro apps converted to Universal Binary by March, so I'm guessing that they'll maybe have some PowerMacs out by then (or maybe save them until NAB in April). Who knows, maybe they'll release iBooks at the same time.

    Pricing

Different states have varying degrees of sales tax (essentially VAT) and most shops don't display the price inclusive of sales tax. However, VAT hasn't changed so that wouldn't explain why the prices on the UK store are higher than they were before. It could be something to do with a shortage...

Google Earth is now available for Mac!

The high res rock photos were probably taken for scientific purposes though.

    The let's-boycott-stupid-PowerBook-renaming thread

I think the name was changed to press the point that it's still a Mac even though it contains Intel hardware. Apple also said that they haven't gone out of their way to stop Windows from running, which makes you wonder if some retailers be selling MacBooks that run Windows... (are they legally...

    iTunes 6.0.2 Released

Oh yeah, I agree that it's spyware. I disagree that it does it without your knowledge though.

Using Virtual PC with Intel MacBook

Ah, thanks. I thought developers could obtain preview models before release.
