Good News for Apple Employees in USA

It's good news for Apple because Apple is an American company. Nobody's saying that America is superior or any of the other nonsense implied or outright stated in these posts. It's only natural for a country to want its companies to employ as many natives as possible. ANY country. The...

    Mac Pro discussion thread

My personal wish list (aside from the obvious faster faster faster wishes): 1. Silence. I'm sick and tired of the jet engine fans. I want the pro machines as quiet as the iMacs. Make it happen. 2. Easy to install hard drives. Not that hard drives are particularly difficult to install, but...

    idont.com

If they're going to act like rebels, maybe they should start by making a product that isn't an exact copy of the best selling music player in history. "Hi, we think iPods suck. Try our iPod clone that looks and behaves just like an iPod." In the marketing world it's what we call a...

    Thanks. That did the job!

XP to OS X mounted volumes

How can I connect from Windows XP to mounted volumes on OS X? I can connect to the home directory easily enough (turned on Windows file sharing), but unlike Mac to Mac, XP isn't seeing the mounted physical volumes on the OS X machine. How can I get it to do that? Specifically, here is our...

    Solid state HDs for Apple?

Don't forget that flash technology is being used more and more in the video acquisition world (specifically in Panasonics HVX200). This will help bring economies of scale that will bleed over into the computer world. It's not going to be overnight, but it will happen. I predict there will be a...

    The MacBook is out

I think Apple blew it by not having better video card support. Students are a big audience for this machine and like it or not, they're going to want to play games, even if it means booting to XP. The MacBook should at least be able to play games reasonably well.

Any worries about this new virus report?

Until I myself or someone I know is inflicted with a virus that actually has teeth, I will continue to live my carefree Mac-life devoid of nonsense anti-virus apps.

Hers is a new Duo Core as well.

    Flash doesn't work

I can't get Flash to work on my 20" Intel iMac even with the latest Beta 8.5 Player. Any thoughts? My friend has the 17" version and it works fine. I even ran the uninstaller first. No luck.

New Apple TV spot (pc virus)

Once again, brilliant by Apple's creative agencies. They do so many things right in these. They mention Microsoft Office at least twice, so they're clearly catering to M$. They don't want to piss off M$, they just want to sell Macs. As for the virus thing, I think it's about time Apple...

    Switching to Mac

I agree, the Mac Book Pro is one heck of a machine. You really can't lose with it. Even if you decide you don't prefer OSX (which I can't imagine ;)), you can run XP. Amazing. I might at least advise to wait for NAB to come and go (end of April) as rumors are predicting the 17" version which...

2GHZ Intel iMac vs Dual 1GHZ PowerMac MDD

I've got an Intel iMac and two dual 1 GHZ G4s. The iMac is easily faster than the dual G4s at just about everything. In fact the iMac feels about as fast as my dual G5 2.7, but to be fair I haven't done anything too demanding on the iMac and I don't have the UBs of Final Cut Suite yet. But...

    .Mac Sync doesn't auto-update

I've got several machines tied to my .Mac service wo we can all use the same address book and calendars. For some reason, even though I've got my sys prefs set to "Synchronize with .Mac" Every Day, it simply doesn't happen. I have to manually sync every machine. Any thoughts? It's a variety...

    The new MacBook (No "Pro")

I absolutely think the biggest single change WILL be the form factor. For one, they're due. For two, they need to distinguish this line. Previously, the PowerBooks and iBooks, for better or worse, didn't do "enough" technically and visually to differentiate them. I expect fairly dramatic form...

    BootCamp run Windows on Mac

You just hit one market that nobody seems to be talking about: education. The once-ripe education market has been dwindling for a while now. I imagine this announcement is going to just about lock in a lot of hardware sales.

Windows Virtualization (WinXP under Mac OS X) Beta Released

Yeah, I tried that. The installer was smart enough to to recognize that and wouldn't allow the installation to proceed. I got an email from Parallels that said audio does not in fact work yet, but it's on their radar for the final release. Video drivers are also on their "potential scope"...

    BootCamp run Windows on Mac

(For the pessimists) Guys, guys, slow down. Do you not understand simple economics? :) If a product has enough demand to offset development costs and make a profit then it will continue to be created. It's that simple. If we, as Mac users, decide to just boot to Windows to play Half Life...

Windows Virtualization (WinXP under Mac OS X) Beta Released

I installed it on a 20" iMac with 2 GB ram and a 256 MB video card. In terms of CPU performance, it's plenty fast. But the lack of a native video driver really kills it. I'm not expecting to play video games or anything, but I personally get motion sickness from the low FPS cursor. I...

    BootCamp run Windows on Mac

Well it's easy to say "I told you so" when you play both sides of the fence! ;)Anyone can suggest some things that MAY happen and then say I told you so. (Just ribbin ya) So I installed XP on my iMac today. I felt dirty. The iMac is primarily my home machine, so XP via Bootcamp is mostly a...
