Steve Jobs calls Record Companies Greedy

These record companies need to be strangled. Apple (and others) brought to the table a brilliant model for distributing music in huge volumes at perfectly fair prices with minimal or no overhead to the record label. The record labels get to enjoy this distribution channel and take in buckets of...

New Tiger build prevents use on non-authorized Intel boxes

The problem is that it doesn't really matter so much how LONG it takes to hack. Once it's hacked, it's hacked. I guess all Apple can hope to do is keep "breaking" the hacks with each incremental update.

Apple wants to hear from you (.mac users)

That particular form is fishing for marketing fluff. Apple clearly wants to use responses as testimonials more than they want to use that information as ways to improve .Mac.

    iSight Performance

I am just talking about recording using QT7's new movie record option. I have not used iSight for iChat communications. Just tried it out on a dual G5. It gets the full 30 fps at 640x480 easily, but it's still blurry when capturing motion. I assume this is just how it is with the iSight. I...

    iSight Performance

Is iSight capture performance (using QT 7) a factor of the host machine? I am only seeing 240x180 in iSight recording prefs. I'm using an iBook 800 MHZ, 640 RAM. Haven't tried it on the work machines yet. Also, even at the pathetic 240x180 res, I'm getting really choppy frame rates. I wasn't...

    iTunes 5

The search/filter response is faster on my slow iBook, but the GUI is still slow (OS X's problem on old boxes, not iTunes). I'm ambivalent to the overall look. Just like I've always been toward brushed metal. In general I accept it because it's very clean and functional and the bland grays...

Mac OS X on intel PCs?

What about OS X on AMD via the hacking community? Is there something specific about the Intel version of OS X that excludes AMD from being able to run it?

Apple are planning a press conference for September 7

Sounds enticing. Better be big. I love Apple hype. It's so much fun. I remember the pre-iPod hype and then the announcement. I actually said in these forums that the iPod was a snoozer, a let down. Shows you what I know. I'm going to go with video iPod (much larger screen, of course, and...

html code for preventing search engines to index

Your request to exclude web text from search engines reminded me of a few months ago when I foolishly posted to this very forum some things relating to specific clients of mine. I don't know what I was thinking. The client did a Google on themselves and found my posts filled with unkind words...

    Windows XP On 10.3 700mhz G4

I hate to be a jerk, but there is no way VPC on your Mac should be running faster than a similar class real PC. We've got VPC running on several machines and at best, it's tolerable, but NEVER anywhere near as fast as the real thing.

Apple Blunder gives Bill Gates iPod Royalties amounting to Hundreds of Millions

This technology patent stuff is completely out of control. Companies are literally sprouting now where all they do is instigate patent claims and sue people. They don't design, write or build ANYTHING! Sure, Apple may have blown it a bit, but for crying out loud, Microsoft of all companies...

    New Switch Section on Apple.com

I think it's wise that Apple isn't talking viruses. If they started bragging about how virus free OS X is, that would be an open invitation to the hacker community. Apple should just lay low on that one IMO.

    itunes rintones 25cents

Warning—Hateful Rant Alert. I wish nothing but ill will toward all ringtone users. What with their obnoxious and juvenile "melodies" breaking my concentration throughout the day. And why is it that ringtone people insist on having their bloody ring volumes at ear splitting level? Seriously...

    Odd Tiny Tiger Bug

I was trying to copy an old archive .pkg file of a Wacom tablet driver from my local drive to a USB RAM key. It said, "One or more items cannot be copied. Do you want to skip them and copy the remaining items?" I chose to skip and continue, but in the end it copied nothing. I thought it...

Support for Classic on intel Macs

I hope Apple doesn't spend one single second maintaining support for Classic. Let it go already. Either get with the program, or enjoy being stuck with OS 9 or Classic on a non-Intel box. Even if there is some legacy app that people simply can't live without, fine, let em live with it on...

IBM claims that Apple's statement about Intel being more powerful isn't true.

I imagine with a decision as huge as this, it was a variety of factors. 1. Current speed 2. Roadmap speed 3. Pricing structure 4. Incorporation of support technologies (e.g. video cards, controller chips, etc.) 5. Which side of the bed Steve rolled out of that day 6. Heat requirements...

    Address Book Sync Screwy

I use .Mac to sync my address book across multiple computers. Today I get a sync message that it wants to delete my entire address book (more than 50% warning). This makes no sense as I have not deleted address book entries on any computer. Any thoughts as to why this is happening?

Well said. I wish I had written that.

    character map in mac?

I cannot find a way using Apple's built-in tools to show me the keyboard shortcut for this character: ? I had to use the "insert" option from the character palette. You'd think, given how thorough the character palete actually is, that Apple would have included keyboard shortcuts...

    New mouse

I'm not so sure the full mouse as button is necessary. Initially I was thrown off by the no-button-button, but then I realised we already have it and we love it. It's called the iPod. And the reason it works so well on the iPods is because of the sound feedback. It psychologically tricks you...
