    fink & bundle-tetex

I got most of it but one file wasn't there. fink says it's not installed, but I'll try again later. It was getting the connection but the file wasn't there. fink will adjust and know what files are where when I try again.

    fink & bundle-tetex

Does anyone know how big the bundle-texex file is? I selected "1" every time, meaning I'm installinng seven packages, but it's been going for around fifteen minutes, and I have a ~2mbps connection (I realize that the remote servers might be slow, but it's Sunday night at 9:22 pm). Any thoughts?

TurboMem is *VERY* buggy and has all sorts of unintended consequences. I'd dump it.

Just wanted to add that AFP is Apple File Protocol, and that it is IP-based, in case either of those things weren't made clear in the above post.

Which fonts can I throw out?

ladislav, you fool! Don't EVER remove files from /System. Feel free to add files, if you think you know what the change will mean, and to modify files inside /System if you're SURE you know what the change will mean AND you make a backup (because, in reality, you never KNOW until the modified...

UFS -- is there a dark side?

    1. Neither Photoshop 7.x nor InDesign 2.x [yet] work with UFS. 2. Netscape 6.x and later do not [yet] work with UFS. That's enough for me. Eventually, all Mac OS X applications will support UFS, but not yet. HFS+ works fine for me, and UFS was a nightmare for reason #1 above.

    mail in terminal?

I've tried to use mail, but but get an error about "group writable directory"; I've checked the recipients and, no, they haven't gotten the messages. Is this something Apple deliberately disabled or is it something another program messed up?

How to change gimp swap file directory to another disk?

testuser: if one types /Volumes/swap/gimp (on my system, at least) into the gimp's preferences panel under directories (in the bottom blank, not the top) *does* change the gimp's swap file to that location. BSDimwit: thank you for clarifying the disk changing operation under BSD CLI. I do...

How to change gimp swap file directory to another disk?

What is the BSD syntax for indicating a different disk? For example, cd /users/BSDimwit changes the working directory to BSDimwit's user folder, but what if it's on a different disk from the one you're using at the moment? Isn't it something like Volumes: [diskname]/users/BSDimwit?
