You know what, I've converted. I'm actually enjoying some of them. Actually 4.

I wish NPR would put out All Things Considered though.
I find just about every independent show unlistenable (is that a word) due to sound quality...
You can fire up the terminal and do a 'man lookupd' to see what it does. I can't explain why it is being such a hog though.
FYI, you can probably just kill the process from Activity Monitor instead of restarting.
When in doubt, repair permissions! jk
But you are still seeing 100% cpu usage? Sort the activity monitor by %CPU. Something is hogging it.
And for the most part, applications don't just open and close on their own unless it is some sort of background process. On my system, this doesn't happen too often. As in, can't notice...
If you connect directly (without the router) it works fine, correct? Then a OS resinstall won't do any good. That test alone, all but eliminates a defect in the computer.
It also seems you aren't getting odd network traffic to/from your mac so It wouldn't make sense for it to be a DOS...
A bluetooth remote for airtunes would be way to complicated for the purpose. To go through the effort of "linking" them up just for a remote is ugly. However, I do agree that a remote of some kind is a must.
It just doesn't make sense not to have one.
So I'm moving into a new place and I'd really like some software to help me out. I'm looking to be able to put in the dimensions of the room as well as the dimensions of the furniture and then be able to move the furniture around in the room to see how it fits.
Does anyone make anything...
It is a safe bet that if you don't know about ports, then you haven't set up the router to forward anything to your computer. That is, your computer is not experiencing DOS from outside your network.
If your other pcs are fine by all accounts, then no one can be DOS'ing your router either...
No one is saying that our time is worth nothing. What we're saying is that nowhere in the known universe are you compensated for your lost time when you have to take something back to Target, Home Depot, etc. For some reason you think Apple should, and they need to give hugs to boot...
Since you don't seem to be too familiar with compiling things, you may want to take a look at fink ( http://fink.sf.net ). It will download, compile, and install things like ghostscript for you.
Go get opera, camino, firefox, and omniweb. IMO they are the only ones worth trying. Give them all a trip around the block a few times and decide which you like best.
I'm using the camino alpha now because of certain add ons.
Safari was my previous and I have no major beefs.

I'm considering replacing the HDD in my PB (as the topic says). My problem is that I'm not sure where to start on this one. Presumeably I can find out __how__ to do such a thing from the apple support pages. I've done it before on older laptops, so I imagine it isn't much different.
My...
I've been using fetch. I'm a student so the price is hard to beat. Last I checked transmit cost money, and I can't fathom paying for ftp at this point.
Are there any alternatives to iSync that provide essentially the same features? Basically, I'm looking for a way to keep my address book, calendar, bookmarks etc. synchronized between my (currently) two computers.
I've tinkered with the idea of cvs and bailed on it because it seems like...
Are you sure your drive supports +R discs? Assuming you are running OS X you can fire up system profiler and under the disc burning category you can see the types of discs your drive can write.
This has become my current selection. But, you have to use python to generate them. On the upside, you use it sort of like you would use matlab.
