    Internet Explorer Crashing with Quicktime

I had the same problem with IE until I updated the QuickTime plugin, then all was well again with IE. Not that I use it much, as I use OmniWeb.

    iToons

Thanks DeltaMac. I have TinkerTool and didn't know it could do that. I don't use Audio CDs much, they all have been converted to MP3s. When I did put in a CD, I wanted iTunes to open. TinkerTool rocks again.

In iTunes General preferences there is a pop-up menu, On CD insert, select the show songs menu from the pop-up. Whoops, I didn't read correctly, duh! I don't know how to keep it from opening, I thought you meant from automatically playing a CD.

I don't even use X because of this help!?

I got SwitchRes and have 1200x1024 on the iMac in OS 9. I didn't know it would do that resolution and I have had it 16 months or so. Switched to X and only 1024x768, but I am sure it can be hacked. I had not used the iMac 500 in X.1 much and it works quite well, I was surprised.:D

I don't even use X because of this help!?

I guess what I should have asked, does the iMac go to 1200x1024 with SwitchRes on the internal iMac monitor too? Or does it stay at 1024x768? I would think it would have to switch resolution, as the ext. vga connector mirrors what displays on the internal.

    Annoying "feature" of iDisk

iDisk is very slow on my 768k DSL and is not much better on a T1 that I have access to at work. I really don't think that connection speed matters that much. If you monitor the amount of traffic coming in, it is just trickling in. iDisk also doesn't accurately reflect the state of copying files...

I don't even use X because of this help!?

When I connect an external monitor to my iMac, the most it will do is 1024x768 in X. You indeed need some kind of hack like SwitchRes to do it. I didn't know that SwitchRes would do that in 9 with an iMac, hmmmm. What happens to the internal iMac monitor in OS9 when you do switchRes to a higher...

iTunes 2 is going nuts! Bloated Temp Files!

I don't see the problem here, but I only have about 450 songs and a 368k library file. But I do have two iTunes library files located there. I also updated my playlists last night and added many new songs and tranferred to the iPod.

imac users please read this ...

Memory, the more you have, the better your computer will run, especially with X. 512mb is perfect for your dad on an iMac. My next purchase is a 512mb stick to replace a 64mb in my cube to move up to 1gb+ RAM. I get some paging to disk with what I have now, usually when running something in...

    Kill!!!

SimX, Have you done any testing to see how much difference renice has on performance for an application? In early builds of OS X, when I tried it, it had no affect.

    Digital Millenium Copyright Agreement

The day I received a full 10.1 install CD with the many QS 733s we buy was a godsend. We should all be grateful for the lack of a 50 character key to enter or even worse a call to whatstheirname?

    USB ports are not working

Like Ed said, take it back. I have seen 2 bad USB keyboards out of about 40 that I have had my hands on in the last few years.

Maxtor Hardrives -general inquiry and a not so pressing ?

Gengh is right, don't use the Maxtor stuff as it is not needed. The Mac can see it just fine and format without their software. I even used a 80gb Maxtor to replace a Ultra 2 SCSI RAID 5 in a NT 4 server when it died. So much for redundant arrays of disk when the controller dies. I put a 100gb...

    iPod abuse

I have an iPod. It has suffered abuse and it still survives. The first day I owned this finger printed jewel, it hit the ground when I let my wife dance around with it like that guy in the commercial. Well, today when I got out of my car, it hit the cement hard. Damn, the thing still works and...

Clock and date resetting to 1969??

Wolf is right, it isn't a MP problem ! More like a G4 tower AGP - OS X something! I noticed that the menu bar clock was always a GMT 24hr clock when the problem occurred. One would expect to use the Date-Time panel to set a 24hr clock, but instead the International Panel is used to set a 24 hr...

Clock and date resetting to 1969??

Well Ed I can see by your profile we were both there, unlike a lot of posters here in the fori :) Imagine what it would be like now, if we had computers then.

Clock and date resetting to 1969??

I was at my Dad's house tonight and he has a G4 400 Yikes tower which is also reverting to 12-31-69. I arrived, the Mac was sleeping, woke it up running in OS 9, the clock was correct. I then rebooted into OS X(10.1.1) and it was 12-31-69. The battery was never replaced, but he runs in OS 9 for...

    Norton AntiVirus beta for osx

I have never used a virus scanner on a Mac and in 17 years I got one virus and that was 12 years ago. OS X is not fast enough yet, I don't need some utility sniffing through each file I open or save. That is one of the banes of Windows PCs is the absolute need to run a/v software. I admin about...
