Apple has already stated that QT5 keys will only work for the preview. The final version of pro will be a piad upgrade to all who want it including existing users due to liscensing they have to pay. There is a url to a FAQ posted in the thread about its release.

I have been reading up on this today. Adobe is doing it. I am curious on what is being sent. Is it just your IP or both IP and serial? If IP's are being sent, and say you are behind a router, what IP is being sent? Is it your lan IP? or your WAN IP used by your router?

I think they may have worked out some sort of agreement. The final release of QT 6 Pro will require a completely new activation key. QT 5 Pro users will need to repurchase a key as well. On the FAQ page for QT 6, apple says
